January 24, 201115 yr BK took UC to a Big East championship and an undefeated season up until they played Florida. To be fair the team was in turmoil and they didn't have BK to help them prepare for the game. Then BK leaves UC and they go 4-8...to say he is unproven is a rediculous statement, and any AD looking for a HC last year will tell you otherwise, and for those who were wondering about recruitng he has brought in ND's best defensive class in recent memory. I don't care if Lombardi or Bellicheck were coaching that game UC was going to get dominated.
January 24, 201115 yr Author Regardless ND is on its way back. Kelly knows how to win and is a winner. BTW, I watched the Kelly presser the other day and thought his take on the QB position was interesting. They have 6 QB's on scholarship, but Kelly said they will go with 4. That means 2 are gone or he hinted at position changes. He said he will use the QB's to his offense and however they can help, kind of hinting maybe at using more then 1. When talking about Rees he said he has toughness, but Crist and Hendrix have that too. Which makes me think it will be Rees, Crist, and Hendrix going for the starting job and the freshman Golson used in short yardage and goal line situations.

January 25, 201115 yr Luke Massa is changing positions. Do you know if Massa will play TE or what? Is he going to be happy with that?
January 25, 201115 yr Clyde you called it a few weeks ago. Do you know if Massa will play TE or what? Is he going to be happy with that? TE. I wondered if that would cause him to look elsewhere but it seems like he loves ND.

Ole Miss would have won the Big East hands down in 08 and 09 and heck probably would've been very competitive there this year. Winning the Big East isn't a big deal anymore.
January 27, 201115 yr I remember last year somebody saying ND will never get the big time recruits because ND is in the middle of now where and all that looks like Coach Kelly is getting some top recruits its going to be awesome to see ND back at the top!

They have been getting top recruits for a while just haven't done anything with it.
January 28, 201115 yr I don't even understand why people even talk about Notre Dame they have been a farse for the last decade.....and probably the next.
January 28, 201115 yr I don't even understand why people even talk about Notre Dame they have been a farse for the last decade.....and probably the next. Or did you mean farce?
January 28, 201115 yr I don't even understand why people even talk about Notre Dame they have been a farse for the last decade.....and probably the next. People talk about them because they have their own TV network deal. They have a tremendous following, not just nation wide, but world wide. They are the only team in college football that can be ranked #8 or better in the final BCS and get an automatic BCS bid. Notre Dame can continue to live on their reputation for years to come, and if they get to a 2 loss level, regardless of the strength of their schedule, I guarantee you, the polls will have them #8 or better, including the BCS.
January 28, 201115 yr I don't even understand why people even talk about Notre Dame they have been a farse for the last decade.....and probably the next. Because they have a new coach. Nevermind the fact that the last two coaches were suppose to be homerun hires as well. Maybe you could argue that Weis had no HC experience at the college or NFL level, but people were still stoked. I think Kelly will do well there but success at Cincy does not definitely transfer to ND. Willingham was the most successful coach at Stanford in 3 decades but still got ruined at Notre Dame. It's a tough job. It's tough to pull the kind of athletes to compete with SEC teams there, or teams that are built like SEC teams like USC has been, Oregon now seems to be, and Ohio State and FSU are in the process of being built like. There just aren't that many athletes out there to go around and the geography does not help them out. Why leave the south to go to Notre Dame when you can play at Bama, Florida, LSU or Auburn all recent champions? Why leave the West when you can play at USC or Oregon? Why leave Texas when you have dreamed of being a Longhorn? And if you do leave what makes Notre Dame more attractive than Ohio State right now? Talk big time recruits if you want, but the magic of SEC teams have been their depth which will be hard for Notre Dame to acquire at the level of an Alabama or to be quite honest an Oregon right now. I don't think most kids care about tradition as much anymore, especially since ND has not had much of a championship tradition in these kids lifetimes. Kelly is a big name coach but for a relative new comer to the national scene he's not Chip Kelly or for some reason even the name than Lane Kiffin is. He can't compete with the championships won or players put in the NFL that guys like Saban, Miles, Mack Brown, Tressel can. BK has had a heck of a career, but that does not guarantee success at the level the ND faithful will demand. JMO, but I think that given the track record of ND the last two decades I think it's a safer bet to think BK will fail to live up to expectations rather than meet and excede them. Especially with Urban Meyer now on the market.

And probably most importantly, they are the brand for Catholic D1 football. Catholics across the country see ND as their university.

Neither of those things have anything to do with what I said above. We don't know how good the recruits that any team is getting this year will actually be, let alone how ND's players they've brought in stack up against the guys at Bama or Oregon.
