Golden unproven? He was an extremely highly regarded assistant, coordinator and recruiter. He did wonders at Temple, who when he took over was the worst program in the country. He's not the big name hire someone like Gruden or Harbaugh would have been, but he's at worst a solid hire. He's good enough for Penn State to think about him as the eventual replacement for JoePA but he's not a good pick up for Miami? Please......

 

The Sun Bowl showed nothing as far as Miami is concerned. Miami's problems do not stem from a lack of talent, it's the other things that kill them. No heart, lack of fundamentals, discipline on the field, etc. At worst Golden could bring these qualities. It won't be a quick fix but I'd much rather have these kind of problems than a lack of talent and athleticism.

 

As for the commitments, the lost a lot with the coaching changes but Chickillo would be a huge loss. I don't see it happening, he would be a 3rd generation Cane. They picked up two really good players last week (4 stars, ESPN top 150 players for all that matters....) in Crawford and Grooms. They only have 15-16 schollies open this season (unless AG tells some people to leave) so no one who has a clue about Miami football expected this to be a good class on paper no matter how well Miami did on the field.

 

Be careful with the star-gazing, that crap really doesn't matter in football. Alot of big time HS players turn into stars but just as many go on to be bust. Take a look back the last 6 or 7 years at the top 100 in each class. I would bet most wouldn't even recognize 15-20 names on any given list, and many of those other players under perform. 3 years ago Miami had a top class and look at where it has gotten them. ND always has highly rated people come in and it has never mattered.

 

I'll stick by my guarantee. Miami wins 2 of the 3 match up they have with ND going forward. You look at Miami's record and it's a shame. But there are alot of good things to work with there. They have a ton of really good young OL, including Henderson who was a beast this year for a true frosh. Miller and James have looked good, Storm Johnson has been electric in the small amount of time he's been on the field. The overall talent level isn't as good as Miami teams in the past, but the young players Miami has have alot of talent. LB and DB need work going forward as does the QB position, but I think if Fisch is realistic he will rely on the run alot more than Whipple did.

Weis also failed to develop almost all of our defensive recruits.

It's simple, I just make the prediction. There's nothing to really go on, but I'll take my chances.

Talent has never been a problem for Notre Dame and I've never said that. In fact I'm one of the few who took up for Clausen, Tate, and Floyd on here the last few years. Athleticism has been for the last decade. They're built more like a Big 10 team in the skill positions, and I don't know what I would compare their lines to because they're not as athletic as teams in the SEC or Pac-10 and not as stout as Big 10 teams. Maybe Kelly changes that, but with the spread system he's going to have to get better athletes on the OL than ND has had the last few years. Defense is going to definitely improve, the Williams kid they're getting this year is a beast. They need alot more speed at LB and in the secondary though IMO if they want to compete for championships. The SEC is the model and ND is far from looking like an SEC team as far as I'm concerned.

 

Also you're reading way too much into the bowl game as far as ND vs. Miami is concerned. On top of Miami not putting a great product on the field this season, they were going through a coaching change and had an OC who knew he was on the way out because he was not promoted to the interim coach for the Bowl game. If you want to dance around and act like beating the U was a big accomplishment fine, but Miami was not very good this season IMO.

 

He's a proven up and coming coach, what more could Miami ask for? Tressel and Meyer had zero experience at the BCS level as a HC and that worked out just fine. Not comparing him to them, but you act like it's hard to win at Miami and 4 national championship coaches will tell you its not. The guys that cannot manage games, etc. get swallowed there like Clappy did and like Shannon just did. But, any coach worth his weight can win there. Golden is one of the most respected young coaches in the game, what more could Miami possibly ask for? Who would have been a better hire that they could have actually got?

I think it depends on when they lose and who they lose two, but I would agree with this.

Don't kid yourself, the ACC is weak and Miami went 7-5, and was on the down slide for the rest of the year. You have a largely unproven coach and one four star committment who is looking at other schools. On the other hand ND has a coach who has been largely successful everywhere he has gone and is addressing the needs on the defensive side of the ball. If the Sun Bowl showed us anything, it showed us a program on the upswing, and a program that has a year or two of turmoil before they even began to compete at a high level.

 

 

His really successful Cinci team sure gave Florida a run for their money too. Kelly has proven little other than he could run the table against a nothing schedule in the Big Least.

BK took UC to a Big East championship and an undefeated season up until they played Florida. To be fair the team was in turmoil and they didn't have BK to help them prepare for the game. Then BK leaves UC and they go 4-8...to say he is unproven is a rediculous statement, and any AD looking for a HC last year will tell you otherwise, and for those who were wondering about recruitng he has brought in ND's best defensive class in recent memory.
