It's the same opinion every year. And it never comes to be. You can by all means be optimistic. Just don't be disappointed when they fall short, just like they do every year.

 

I root for Michigan, so my bashing of Notre Dame has nothing to do with the fact that they've never had any real success in my lifetime, and everything to do with the unnecessary love affair the media and fans have with the program.

I'll hold my judgement on Kelly until he beats a good team. Beating up the MAC and the BEast is hardly "doing great things".

 

Here's the thing, Notre Dame may get or have 5-6 guys on each side of the ball that would be considered "SEC athletes". The SEC schools have 11 on each side....Until Notre Dame gets to that level, which I don't see ever happening, they'll never be a serious threat. JMO.

 

It's fair to reserve judgement after only one season at ND, but hammering one-loss Utah at the time and winning in Los Angeles and beating Miami who admittedly looked awful (or at least Jacori Harris did) but who still had great athletes is a step in the right direction; this recruiting class is another step in the right direction; not only did they get athletes from SEC country but also from Miami, NC, and Brooklyn; that is what has amazed me; they signed depth on defense, where they particularly needed help. If he continues to recruit like this, ND will return to prominence.

 

Next year's schedule is very manageable as well; much to the chagrin of all the ND-haters, if they get their act together, they could realistically be undefeated going to Stanford at the end of the season; their toughest games are Michigan St. and USC in South Bend and at Ann Arbor, who is in transition again with a new coach; South Florida will certainly test them in Week 1 as well; you guys will be going crazy that ND is not that good, and I'll probably agree with you!!!!!

The reason this class is getting attentionis because of the ND Dline haul is considered one of if not the best position groups in the 2011 class.

I'm not a ND fan or a Kelly fan for that matter, but he has proven to do more with less. Even if it was the BE or MAC or even GVSU. He still won those games and conferences against teams that were supposed to have better recruits than he. Kelly gets his players to believe in his system and that's half the battle. His system is proven to be successful. You give that man a solid D and he will be in the talks of BCS.

I am on your same wavelength. Whether you like or dislike Kelly (most despise for various reasons), you cannot argue with a lot of his on-field success.

 

As far as scheduling, I think what has happened of late - meaning the past 10 season or so - their traditional Big 10 games have lost some prestige because of the Big 10 falling off so much during that time. They traditionally play Michigan, USC, Purdue, Michigan State, Stanford, Boston College, and another rotating BCS school. That is just as daunting as most BCS conference schedules outside the SEC.
