We don't know how good the recruits that any team is getting this year will actually be, let alone how ND's players they've brought in stack up against the guys at Bama or Oregon. The people with professions judging the talent say they stack up quite well; plus ND needed defensive help and that is where Kelly focused; with the number of top-rated kids verballed on defense, they have instant depth and great competition for starting and backup spots. What really doesn't matter is past history; it has no bearing on Brian Kelly and the talent of this year's class.

Many of the defensive recruits, which is what this thread has been about, were from SEC country and being recruited by SEC schools. The game vs. LSU has no bearing on this year's recruiting class or the future at Notre Dame.

I thought you were talking about the previous 20 years of ND football which would have been a joke IMO to compare the athletes between the Irish and the SEC. My mistake.
January 31, 201115 yr The recruiting he has done this year and also filling needs of the team say very different. Next year's schedule really helps Kelly out as well. And they're already thinking about it.

My mistake. 20 years ago the SEC wasn't better then ND, ten years ago and now were talking. 20 years ago Notre Dame's athletes would have been a lot better, not a "joke". Actually in '93 they beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl. Notre Dame had some good athletes in the early to mid 90's it was the later half they fell apart. But now were getting those athletes back and we have someone who will develop that talent. We finished strong IMO, though I wish we could have seen a better opponent in that bowl game which was a joke. I'm thinking it'll carry over into next year and we will be back on top again, which apparently makes people furious. Sucks for them I guess because it is coming.

Notre Dame fans can chirp all they want about how "they're back", they're "on top again", etc, etc....They still can't and won't be able to compete with the elite of the SEC, no matter how loud their fans get.

No one in the country has competed with the elite of the SEC over the last 5 years; if they continue to recruit like this year, they will be able to compete with anyone because their defense will be stocked with SEC type talent.

Do you think that all top notch athletes are stupid? Sure their are some guys that the Irish would be wasting their time recruiting because they would never get accepted to the University, but their are plenty of good players who would be eligible to attend Notre Dame if they would so choose.

I think he's just saying that the pool of athletes they can get is much smaller because of academics. Smaller pool of athletes, less studs.

I disagree I think your just trying to find too much here, come on. So less talented players are easier to coach then highly touted, very talented players? Yeah I'd rather have Tony Pike over Cam Newton because Pike is easier to coach, and will want to learn.
