I hadn't seen the post game interview so I looked it up on youtube. WOW! McCoy really did handle himself with ALOT OF CLASS. That's a tough situation to be put in. Really hope he's able to make a full recovery in time for the draft.

 

Congrats to Bama I wanted them to win just wish it would've been with McCoy playing the whole game.

Congrats to Alabama on the win, and winning another championship for the SEC. I'm happy for all of the die hard Tide fans on here. I really don't understand Saban scoring that last touchdown though. It showed a lack of class IMO. Why not just take the knee, and run the clock out? Did he feel that the margin needed to be bigger since McCoy missed all but 4 plays of the game? I also echo the sentiments of those who have already praised McCoy on the way he handled himself after the game. A very classy young man, and I wish him huge success in his pro career.

I applaud Alabama for their deserved victory. They showed they are the best team in the country.

 

I am a lifelong Horns fan but I will forever have disdain and distaste for Saban after tonight. The last score is one issue that culminated from the beginning. I felt that the opening of the game showed that Saban had NO resepect for this Texas squad and it could have cost him.

 

Saban takes the ball first instead of differing and I thought that was odd. But when he had the fake punt called deep in his own territory I immediately said, "Talk about disrespect. He has no respect at all for Texas to pull a stunt like that at the beginning of the game on this place in the field."

 

It almost backfired too. If Texas had not shifted wrong on that 1st and goal TD the Horns would have been up by 7, not 3. If Mack would have taken the shackles off of Gilbert and allowed him to compete in the 2nd series it might have been 14-0 and Saban would not have looked like the "genius" some tout him.

 

Again, congrats to the Tide and their players but I will never care for Saban again. He was more "lucky" than brilliant in this one and the Tide team was excellent and worthy to be champions. :thumb:

Well, if the reporter had not asked the question then everybody gushing about McCoy's response would not have been able to do so. If it is asked at a press conference nobody sees the way he handled himself with class.

Texas deserved to win that game. Bama got conservative and it almost came back to bite them. That's why you never call the dogs off until the game is over. If the other team gets mad, then they need to go home and reevaluate themselves.

 

Texas proved they belonged there, but when it got close again, Alabama made the plays they needed to make to get the W.

 

I do agree that Bama let them back in it by trying to run clock and giving the Horns young QB more field time to adjust, which he did enough to get them back in it. But credit the Tide for making the big plays whenever they needed them.

Could a healthy Colt have made a difference? Absolutely. But it's all conjecture. Alabama went out and won the game and deserve the title.

Give credit to #21 for Texas for being able to leave the middle of the line of scrimmage immediately prior to the snap and being able to get over and make the INT. I'm not sure if he lined up incorrectly or if the Texas staff baited Alabama into that call, but if the punter leads the receiver they make the 1st down.

If it was an automatic, as you describe, it was still stupid of Saban to not give specific instructions to call it off in certain situations and games.

I could care less about the respect factor coming out of the gates. If anything, it was horrible football coaching. I have not heard if it was a called fake punt or something the punter was instructed to read. None-the-less, it should have never been attempted in that situation. The fumbled kickoff return showed a lack of preparation, especially considering Texas had just done it the previous kickoff. And why on Earth did Alabama come out spreading the field? Just run the darn ball. When they did, it was when the game changed. People can praise McElroy for "managing the game", but I thought he was horrendous, especially at the start. A lot of the credit goes to Texas, but a lot of blame goes to Bama for putting him in that situation when you have your Heisman trophy winner in the backfield. The Tide was able to rally the troops and bring one home for the SEC. I love it when the traditional powers do well in sports. They will most likely be preseason #1.

Coach Saban deserves credit with the staff, and yes he was worth the money Coach Buckett, even before this season he was worth it.

 

When Colt was asked the question I shouted Oh NO! But he did an amazing job with it. I didn't want to see him get hurt. On the hit I told folks he is hurt, something about his face.

 

A really nice kid, hope he does real well in the NFL. I felt for his dad/mom.

 

Horns didn't quit and I knew we had to play well to win even after Colt left, but I'm fooling myself if I didn't think our chances of winning went up by a huge margin.

 

Kickoff returns hurt, give the Horns credit on their hustle, give us credit on our Defense.

 

Mama told me she was happy for me, and I thank God for her.

I knew when Saban arrived they would get one with in first 5 years. They are loaded with talent. Saban does a great job recruiting.

 

What does next season look like for Bama? How much of that talent returns?

I agree with you that it was a dumb call unless they had only needed 5 yards or so, reminded me of the Hal Mumme days at UK. The worst coaching call had to be Texas not running the clock out at the end of the half, the outcome may have been different if they would have.:idunno:

I know that play was widely criticized, but I really didn't have a problem with that call. How often do you see an interception from a shuffle pass. That is usually a very safe call.

Bama scores off that interception at the end of the first half. Horrible play call by Texas. Take a knee, limp in, rally the troops.

 

Had they done that and IF the second half would have played out the same way, after the second Shipley TD reception, UT would have been ahead, instead of behind by 3.

 

Maybe the game ends the same way..maybe it doesn't.

 

Just goes to show you that mistakes early, can really cost you late.
