Here is the question of the day. Which team has more pressure to win this game? Of course, my answer is X. Reason is simple. X has to rid the demon of losing to Trinity in every post season meeting in the Beatty era, not to mention that they have been the favorite team every single time. No exception to the rule this year either. X mauled T in the regular season, and they are favorite to win again. X has the injury issues that T suffered early in the year.

Super You bring up a great point. It is the game that the Tigers need. Had it been Scott County or Henry Clay, St X wouldn't have the same emotion. But it is Trinity, the bully on the block. I wouldn't agree with the term "mauled" describing the regular season matchup but I will admit not a lot of Trinity fans saw the end of the game.

 

Here's a few things to consider as I look at this game-

1) Trinity went 2-3 away from the friendly confines of Marshall Field including lackluster performances against Ballard and Lex Catholic.

2) With a couple more votes, Trinity will be the favorite, an unusual position for the Rocks. In years past, it was higher than 60% in the St X favor

3) In previous years, Coach Beatty and staff were able to put in wrinkles for the finals because he had a senior led team. With a talented team but full of underclassmen, the adjustments may not be as plentiful.

4) Kragthorpe is on fire completion wise and Bishop had a monster game last Friday. Trinity has shown its ability to run or pass to win a game. Trinity's inability to run the ball in the regular season game led to their downfall.St X has shown its ability to run.

5) St X has seen a pretty impressive list of players along the playoffs, with MIles Simpson of Simon Kenton, Trenton Fugate of Ryle, Mkente of Greenwood. Keeping players under wraps will be important for both teams.

6) Trinity's defense has not given up more than 14 points since the regular season matchup against X.

7) turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. Whoever has the least will win. St X had 7 fumbles last week and 3 were lost unofficially.

 

8)Trinity has never beaten St X in Bowling Green. Okay they never have played St X but it will be a different scenario for the state. With change in venue comes possible change in outcome!

It seems like Trinity is peaking and X is hitting a plateau heading into the game. Plus,

there have to be doubts in the minds of X players. Interestingly, the pressure is on X. All the ingredients are here for an upset so I'll pick T.

I'll take Trinity.

:thumb:Trinity is healthy as well and playing their best football of the season. We do have some young kids playing key roles but they are battle tested. Seniors still dominate this lineup and they know what it takes to win this game after being part of it for the past three years. No one is taking anything for granted and I believe it will come down to coaching in the end. Both teams will score points but I don't expect any forth quarter meltdowns like the previous matchup. History shows in the end the Rocks prevail.

Being a fan of Simon Kenton I would say all Trinity has to do is watch film of the second half of the SK vs X game and they should get the W...Knowing the tradition of Trinity I know they have to be much deeper than SK was and probably faster with much better coaching, but I believe if Trinity takes a page outta Coach Marksberrys game plan from SK and mixes in some different looks of there own Trinity should get the W...A few observations are its possible to shred the X secondary with the pass because they just aren't very good and on defense if Trinity keys on the X running game as SK did in the second half then X shouldn't move the ball to well because there passing game is non existent...I'm gonna take the Shamrocks in this one because of better coaching and equally as good players and athletes if not better...Trinity 31- X 14

You base your opinion on one half of football. You obviously don't know much about Brian Buehner. He was 17-24 for 209 yards Friday night at Greenwood.

Buehner is certainly the best QB in the past few years for X but I will concur with the previous poster that if T can contain the running game, X cannot win because they have NEVER had to rely on the passing game to win. If you look at my post before the Cincy X game, I made the same comment and X could not overcome Cincy X after they had their running game shut down and I think they went something like 2-15 through the air. It is a lot easier to throw and pick up yards when deep down you know you are going to win a game.

 

Jusy my opiniuon but it's going to be hard to have to rely on the passing game in a state final when it is nothing but a gimmick in your system.

 

That being said, I'm not sure T can stop the running game with Woodis, Buehner, Montano but, if they do, this one is over!

At this point I still believe that St. Xavier is the premier team in the state, and with that I tend to think the Tigers are going to win. This is Beatty's best time of the year, and he has a knack of putting everything together at just the right time. I hope that happens again.

 

We seem to be at our healthiest right now, and have found the right pieces to make this another legendary game. I just am not sure if we can make up 25 points in 8 games.

I agree, history shows in the end the Rocks prevail. They are the defending state champions for 6A and are the favorite again to win it all.
