I don't know whether it's been written already, but this will be the first time ever that Highlands has faced Whitley County in football. That's pretty neat.

 

Highlands just needs to stay focused. Well done thus far and Go 'Birds, Take State in '08!

 

On a side note, I am currently spending time with some of my wife's family in Bangladesh (11 time zones away), and to celebrate Highlands' big win against JC I wore one of my Highlands shirts here yesterday, marking the first time in the history of this country that someone has worn a shirt with the phrase "Fear the 'Bird!" written on it. Wooohoooo!!

I have seen Byran Station and yes Whitley is much more physical than BS. Totally different type of offensive team and overall mentality.

 

Someone mentioned you must stop the FB according to a coach at the UK/UT game. That coach must have been the special teams coach. You have to stop the QB he is the focus and best player on the Whitley team. All 4 backs in the ace formation are very physical runners with decent speed.

 

Size wise this match-up will be even or near even. WC is not a big team. Speed wise HHS has an advantage.

 

But I have heard on other thread you are down 21 when you come to the mountains. Also their is lots of firetrucks in Whitley co. so a muddy field should be expected. :lol::lol:

The two players that I have been told to stop are Labanion and Powers, if Highlands can do this they will win. If WC is a physical team this should be a good game.

Hopefully my fellow Highlands fans are learning that we best take every opponent seriously. Bryan Station and Johnson Central should have taught us that by now. At times, I think some Highlands fans get a little over confident. We think that every year will be like last year and are probably assuming that the semi's this year will be like last year's win against Lincoln in the semi's. And you know what happens when you assume. There are some other very good football teams out in the state not only in 5A but the other classes also. I haven't seen tape on Whitley yet, but until I do and conclude to the contrary, so I'm counting on every opponent we are playing this late in the playoffs to be a very good team and one that we should not underestimate.

If there's a 5A team in KY that can put up 40 on the board against Highlands, I'd like to see them!! (Or any team in the state for that matter)

The way UK played Saturday they could not put up 40 if they were on the field all alone. U of L would be too worried about protecting the Cardinal. :sleep:

 

IMO this game will not be a blowout. HHS will eventually pull away but it will be hard fought. JCHS is one dimensional as well and managed to put up a few points. Whitley throws the ball better than JCHS but that is not saying much.

I call Whitley in an upset. I saw them play at the begginning of the year, assuming they've improved since then I beleive they can pull it off if there is no major turnover and penalties are limited.

I saw JC play HHS Friday Night and the tape of the Woodford-Whitley game. I am for our mountain teams, but the way I see it Whitley is a team identical to JC. I think JC had more speed and size. I think Whitley will come out strong, but HHS passing game and overall team speed will get the best of Whitley. If HHS can get out score quick and get ahead, Whitley can not catch up. If HHS lets Whitley hang around late in the game, watch out. If HHS QB gets on track early and Conner runs the ball well, this could get ugly early. Love my mountian teams, but we are going to have to become more than one dimesional to beat the guys from up North.

I didn't think you would say anything negative and you shouldn't. Obviously you have to always show respect for the opponent. My mom always said that if you don't have something good to say, don't say anything.

I just cant wait for Highlands to take the field on Friday night and smell the aroma coming from the Pizza Box in Louisville. They are going to be HUNGRY !!!
