I like Dale but this isn't exactly original. I'd rather hear geniune "golly gee" enthusiasm.

I'm really happy for this Whitley County team and wish them the best against Highlands. However, Highlands is a top five team in the state, regardless of class. As much as I want to be completely wrong, this game probably won't be close at all.

The misfiring cannon thing reminded me of something. We went up to the Williamsburg/LCA game a couple of weeks ago and the guys that shoot off the fireworks after a score did not wait for the signal and shot off the fireworks, anyway. They became second-and-goal fireworks!!!!:lol:

I believe Highlands longest winning streak was from 1981-1983. It was 29 games.

13-2 in 1981 ended season on 4 game winning streak State AAA Champs

15-0 in 1982 State AAA Champs (Also beat the 4A Champs, Christian Cty)

10-1 in 1983. Won first 10 games in 1983. Lost to Conner in the 1st playoff game. Conner went on to win state. Conner is in Boone Cty.

 

They also had a 25 game winning streak back in the early 60's that Corbin put an end to.

A wet, sloppy, nasty field and cold night would be Whitley's best friends to help neutralize the Birds' speed advantage. I'm sure the Birds are practicing in wet, sloppy, cold field conditions to get ready. Conditions may decrease the victory margin but the Birdies fly home on I-75 with a victory. The game down south should be warmer than it would be up here.

Highlands took out what might have been their toughest opponent going into the semis.

 

Can't look past Whitley County of course but the only team I could see giving them fits from here on out is Owensboro but the birds have to win this game before they get to that one.

 

I'll take Highlands in this one.
