IMO the schedules aren't even close. I could see Highlands possibly running the table playing the Colonels' schedule. I can't say the same for Whitley playing HHS' schedule, they may have gone 5-8.

WHAT TO WATCH: Whitley County has one of the best 1-2 rushing combinations in the state. Jason Powers has run 231 times for 1,664 yards and 27 touchdowns, and Cody Jones has run 147 times for 1,141 yards and 25 touchdowns. As a team, the Colonels have rushed for 4,020 yards, an average of 309 per game on the ground. "They can control the game well with a group of backs that play hard," said Highlands coach Dale Mueller said. "But they always play a number of guys both ways, which is tough to do against us."

 

WHAT'S NEXT: The winner will advance to play either Christian County or John Hardin in the state finals.

 

BOTTOM LINE: For most of the regular season, people thought Highlands would roll through the playoffs easily and claim its second straight Class 5A state crown. The Bluebirds haven't been beaten, but they have been challenged in the postseason. They beat Bryan Station 28-22 at home and beat Johnson Central 35-21 on the road. This game could be another tough road test for Highlands.
