...Whitley County got things started from the opening whistle, as Alex Patrick took the kick-off on the 10-yard line, returning it 55 yards to the Letcher County 35-yard line.

 

After that, it was a two-play drive, which was capped off by Jason Powers with 8:54 to go in the first quarter, putting Whitley County up 6-0 after failing to convert the extra point. On the night, Powers rushed for 108 yards with three rushing touchdowns, giving him 27 on the year, which broke the record of 25 set by Bobby Joe Lawson in 1996.

 

After the game, Powers said it felt great to get the touchdown mark, but he owed all the credit to his offensive line, which includes Nathaniel Davis, Dan Burnette, Cyle Moses, D.J. Centers, Jordan Rickett and Chad Breeding.

 

Up next for Whitley County will be Ft. Thomas Highlands, who defeated Johnson Central 35-21.

Dale thinks that is awesome and he would tell you the same.

Since the playoff system began 48 years ago, in 1959, the Birds have appeared in the championship game about every two years (23/48=48%), winning about every 3 years (17/48=35%). Not a bad run, winning a 3rd of the championships over almost 50 years.

 

This has to be comparible to Trinity and X, anyone have the stats?

Do any of the Highlands historians know which team ended the Bluebirds' record winning streak(seems like it was 25 in a row)and which county that school is located in?

I don't know that we had a "record" winning streak.

Highlands by 3 plus TD's.

Highlands will name the score, they are way to fast and physical, don't think they can match up with Highlands at any position.

I believe Highlands longest winning streak was from 1981-1983. It was 29 games.

13-2 in 1981 ended season on 4 game winning streak State AAA Champs

15-0 in 1982 State AAA Champs (Also beat the 4A Champs, Christian Cty)

10-1 in 1983. Won first 10 games in 1983. Lost to Conner in the 1st playoff game. Conner went on to win state. Conner is in Boone Cty.

Highlands may be faster but too physical???? We will see......Highlands may win, but Whitley will hit you, actually I think that man for man Whitley may match up pretty well. Mud (lack of grass) may even out the speed issue. And before you start Whitley will not be watering the field. It has been over used this season (elementary, freshmen, JV, and Varsity) plus it has been used in the rain 3 of the last 4 games, and with the weather this week I don't see it drying up too much.

 

 

As for naming the score, well you can name all the scores you want.........what are you going to name them? Fred? Dale? Jim? Alice? All nice names but I am just trying to figure out why you would want to name a score??!!!????

Name the score means when do the call the dogs off. I rather not see that and hope its a good game.
