If Belfry's speed shuts this down it will be a long night for the Jumpers. Also Somerset must be bend but not break on D. They can't stop Belfry's running game but must not give up big plays and hope Belfry shoots itself with penalties and fumbles.

Screens aren't the way to attack the Belfry D. Coach Haywood plays a disciplined defensive scheme. Linemen are taught to stand up his opposing blocker and protect the LOS. They rarely blitz. But even when they do it's only one or two LB (almost never a full-out rush). This means the screen will NOT be thrown behind the defensive front. The Jumpers could get into real trouble trying to do that in the middle of the field.

 

It's just this simple...

 

Somerset must have enough success in throwing downfield to force Belfry to either trade out LB's for DB's or have their LB's start taking deep drops. At that point, the Jumpers MUST run against the Belfry front well enough to move the chains.

 

If Somerset can't force Belfry to focus on the passing attack, or can't then run on Belfry's "pass defense", the Jumpers are going to lose by a LOT of points.

 

The Belfry offense will move the ball right down Somerset's throat unless the Jumpers put 9 or 10 at the line. Even then, it's tough to keep the Pirates from making 3-4 yds. a rush and moving the chains all night long (as a matter of fact, few things please Haywood as much as LONG possessions with points).

Wow, you don't think Somerset is as good as Magoffin County or Pike County Central. I'm not picking a Somerset upset but I don't see a shutout happening. Also Belfry has only scored 55 points once, against Pike County Central. The Jumpers have a lot better team than that.

I just think this will be a lot better game than we are letting on, Coach Jay Cobb will have his team ready to play Belfry.

With one of the states best players in John Cole it will be very interesting if the cream of this years crop of players done shine. I have seen him play and he is the real deal, so sad our state didn't see fit to get him.

Just another blunder in our university's way of letting the best athlete's in state get away.

I do think Belfry may be the better team but am just as sure its going to be much closer than we think.

Guys and Gals, lets make sure we are spelling the two school's names correctly.

spindoc addressed this already once and continuing to do it on purpose is not only a rules violation but shows tremendous disrespect to the other team. And both these great programs deserve better from us fans.

Here is my contribution.

 

It will be interesting to see what happens if Belfry falls behind early by a couple scores. BELFRY HAS NEVER TRAILED THIS SEASON! If Somerset gets out of the gate quickly, might shell-shock the Belfry players.

Somerset does have quick strike ability, that concerns me a little, but when our pass defense has needed to step up, it has this season, this game will come down to Somerset's ability to stop the run, if they can't and Belfry eats up the clock, then the Pirates will win.
