I would be careful with that; Frankfort High has had some great backs over the years.

For Trinity, I think a lot on here would agree Alan Hennessey is the best to this point. I think the discussion becomes a lot more interesting after the '08 season!

 

As an alum & avid Rock supporter, w/ all due respect to the great Mr. Hennessy, IMVHO he has already been supplanted as the best in school history by Tim Phillips, & he still has a year left...:thumb:

I played against DeShea. He was a horse of a back.

I played against Derek Homer of Ft. Knox. Man, that kid was legit. Saw him in basketball later in the year, and he was dunking the ball. For a guy that height, it was impressive. Great athlete!!!

Daniel Morrison and Charlie Siffel are 1/2 on the career list in Independence. I wasn't fortunate enough to see Charlie play but from what I've heard he was very good. I coached DMo and the kid was electric, once he hit the open field he was as good as gone.

 

 

Charlie Siffel was on a whole different level. Amazing.

I agree that Tim is special, but you must not be old enough to have seen Alan play. He was a state champion track star and also had the power and size to run over and punish people. He had the moves to make people miss if he chose to. I have not seen a better RB at the high school level since. If Tim had about 40 more pounds, I might reconsider.

Has anyone mentioned Michael Bush of Male? Some forget that he was pretty good running back for three years in HS before he became a QB his senior year. He also had a decent college career. Some would put him right behind Shaun Alexander as the best running back Kentucky has produced in the modern era.

You are correct, I was 4 when he graduated but I have seen some grainy black & white game film (from St. Pius as well as Trinity) years ago & I agree he was certainly something special. I didn't attend my first Rock football game until 1974 so to be fair perhaps I should ammend my statement: Tim Phillips is the best back I've ever seen wear the green & white...AND we get to watch him for another year!!! Hey 19!!!

Trimble Co. David Bird. If he had not got hurt this past year he would have had a shot at 3000 yards in a season. Finished with 4715 yards in 2 and half years. Avg over 10 yards a carry.

Agreed. Tim will be exciting to watch next season. Barring injuries he may be the best back in the state next year.

No list of the greatest running backs at Highlands is complete without adding Hank Pogue and Jim and John Burt. Pogue was an All State and All Southern tailback in 1966 and went on to start for three seasons at fullback at Indiana. The Burt Brothers led Highlands to a state championship in 1960. John was the fullback and Jim was the tailback. Both were All State players and both started on offense and defense for Western Kenucky University. Jim Burt was drafted in the 5th Round by the Los Angeles Rams.
