Cole Chadwick('01)-career yards record holder, stepped up big sophomore year after Madden graduated.

Galen Healy('95)-God rest his soul, but he was a tough little back too

Mark Brueggemann(late 70's)- Played varisty as a freshman and started the rest of years at Cov Cath

Rick Hornsby('70?)-was too young too remember, but his name was/is all plastered over the record books, and heard he was a beast. Great guy and great teacher too. Also was a great running back at UL. Now a varsity coach at Ludlow

From Russell I would have to say John Groves, Josh Gross, Kasey Clark and Reno Gipson.

 

I would add Tim Hammonds. I know it is a diferent era but he was as good as any I've seen recently. You didn't have to score 45 points back then to beat a team so the stats are pretty meaningless in comparing.

For Mason County I would have to rank them this way:

He knocked me out the 1st series of the Regional Championship game. I played the rest of the game and we won by stopping them on the 3yd line but he was a LOAD! I'd say he had to be 240lb's at the least. Gaylon Thomas was in that backfield along with Shawn Nelson. That might be one of the most underrated backfields ever. I'd say Gaylon was a good 225 at the very least and could run. They were HUGE up front and faked the ball as well as any team I ever played. Great team!

At NewCath Ed Ziegler in the mid to late 60s was an incredibile runningback who went on to play at Notre Dame. Still holds a number of NewCath records that you can see in the program that NewCath puts out for their football games.

Lexington Catholic I'd have to say has Derrick White of I believe ('96 or '97) being his final year and then Shane Israel to really call their great running backs. The school has had some tough runners over the years but nobody I could really say who belongs on a greats list besides these two. Maybe Devon Davis I believe from the program's very first couple years however I never saw him play so I have no clue as to how good he was except to say that in Lex Cath's record books he was the original big offensive guy for the program until Sphire really got the pass happy offense going.

Those guys were good, but let's not forget Eric Atwell, played from 85-88 and was PC 1st all state player. Rush for over a 1,000 yards his Jr and Sr years playing for a team that had been around for only 4 -5 years in a district of Tates Creek, Henry Clay, Bryan Station, Lafayette, Laurel Co, Clark Co, and Madison Cent. Those were tough years! A lot of "Homecoming Games", if you know what I mean! Eric was a great player!

 

Also Somerset had Eric "EJ" Jones at that time. Another Great Somerset RB!. Was on their State Runner-up team in 88.

When it's all said and done, our best MAY be here right now.

Chuck Coleman was the best at Iroquois. Also Hernandez-Jones and Davy Keen who played with me in the early 70s.

 

This one gets me in a different way, being that it is actually spelled Herana daze-Jones, but when I asked him how to pronounce it, he said HERNANDEZ....kind of like Monquantue Gibson, who said that it is PRONOUNCED Montaque.....I always cracked up about it.
