These were the best I recall. I know you can add Craig Yeast to this as I believe he lined upon in the Backfield and split out. I still find it hard to believe how great stretch the Pioneers had from the early 70's to the mid 80's in running backs. I left off Venus Meaux because the list was so big.

 

I would pick Henry Parks as the best. Gus was very good and Nicky was faster in High School than College and awesome. Had he not been hurt in '76 that team might have taken the Class A title. A backfield that had Henry Parks (state leading scorer), Venus Meaux (UK starter as DB for 3 years), Gus Parks as a sub (Future EKU star), and if you added Nicky it was difficult.

 

If Parks was the best of the Single Wing era, then Donald Smith was the best of the Pioneers when Alvis went to the "I" Formation. He carried it 25+ every game and was very successful.

 

 

I might have gone for Bo Yeast overall but I'm just a little too young for his day or Jackson's.

Take Stahlkamp off the list he was a TE, add Dave Browning, and Jason Soden

Appreciated, but he wasn't nearly the tail-back that Gary, Nathan, Caine, or Brad were.....Not even close, but again, the comment is duly appreciated... (he was a little better with the "bat & ball".....)

 

Gary Green, Caine Hughes, and I have to add in Gaylon Thomas would have absolutely flourished under Mason County's current head coach and system.....These guys were very good, and that might be an understatement, because all three could have been GREAT under better coaching......:thumb:

John Bankamper :Speed Back

 

Justin Frisk was a speed back also....4.5 speed

He has already been put on here for Dayton but Jason Skirvin was an amazing running back. Although he had a good team around him, he almost single handedly beat Beechwood in the 1995 semifinals (quaterfinals?). Great player but even a better person. Another great back from Dayton was Kleet (sp?).
