Stone should have been the QB, and HC should have run an option attack. I never understood why the two were never in the backfield together, unless HC was going to run a reverse.

TJ Duson is probably Harlan's best running back, as well as Jamie Jacobs. A name that goes unheared though is Ben Smith from the '99 Regional Runner-Up team.

It would have been effective for a few plays but teams would have noticed quickly that his throwing ability was very sub par. But those two in the backfield were electric, and on special teams.

What about Marcus Moss or the Parrott kid who played in the late 70's? We need to get Toothpick on this one.

 

Moss would have to be the best overall..Unbeleivable ability to stop on a dime and then explode through a hole, plus he had excellent balance and strength..His runningmate for a couple of years was right up there too, John Redd..He went on to Missouri and had a solid college career...There's been several others I'd place ahead of Bright...

The Parrott in the late 70's, early 80's was Charles "Pinky" Parrott.. He was a great player but best on the defensive side of the ball and played fullback because of Redd and Moss being there at the same time.

The 30,s 40's and 50's Dayton had some real good running backs

 

He has already been put on here for Dayton but Jason Skirvin was an amazing running back. Although he had a good team around him, he almost single handedly beat Beechwood in the 1995 semifinals (quaterfinals?). Great player but even a better person. Another great back from Dayton was Kleet (sp?).

 

Admittedly I know more recent names than I do the older names. However I also know that Dayton's teams that performed best throughout the state were in the 40's 50's 60's... They have one statechampionship from the 60's and one "mythical" state championship according to their Hall of fame from sometime before then. For some reason I'm wanting to say '49... not sure though.

 

FWIW, there are 2 jersey numbers retired at Dayton, and they are Greg Kleete's and Jason Skirvin's...

 

Skirvin's fake on the reverse against Beechwood in the playoffs was amazing...

Julani Brandon was a wide receiver.

 

Sorry about that. I just remember hearing the guy's name and remembering heaaring he was pretty good. Like I said, I was just a kid.

Jelani Brandon at Lloyd was a very good football and baseball player in his day and a tremedous young man.

 

The Dayton brothers from the 60's we at Lloyd at fits with were the Eddie brothers (Herbie, Fred and Bobbie) and of course the Wilburn brothers (Sam and Fred) we had some tremendous battle's. JD

Thanks Just 4. :thumb: I've always had a ton of respect for Mayfield's program and their running backs.

Joe Roskoph would have to be in that mix, and Trampus Hollins could have been one of the hardest guys to tackle. Quentin was a good back but did not have a great senior year.

Wow! Not a good senior year, its been a long time ago, but I remember him rushing for over 2000 yards that year, maybe he set the bar so high his first three years people forget how good he really was. Best at LC hands down IMO.

Did the Blair kid go on and play College ball? He was one of the fastest kids I have watched in the mountain area.

 

He is playing for Georgetown currently, I'm pretty sure.

Just wanted to reiterate my point. Does anyone have any additions to this list from Highlands?

 

I might be too young to comment on this one, but I felt that James Hubbard and Matt Gramsted should be mentioned for Highlands. Both may not have been too great as underclassmen, but their senior years, they were a force to be reckoned with.
