It would have been effective for a few plays but teams would have noticed quickly that his throwing ability was very sub par. But those two in the backfield were electric, and on special teams.

 

HC's QB that year was bad. Stone came in in the second half of the playoff game against NewCath and had twice the arm of HC's starting QB that year.

TJ Duson is probably Harlan's best running back, as well as Jamie Jacobs. A name that goes unheared though is Ben Smith from the '99 Regional Runner-Up team.

Regarding Trinity, IMO it is Alan Hennessey (seasons of 1966-8) although I am ready to concede the "best" title to Tom Phillips if he has a progressively productive season season next fall. To be better than Hennessey is quite an achievement.

I think Tyrone went to some small college up in Illinois, but not 100% positive.

Lots of good ones mentioned on here for Danville, but are we forgetting Jeremy Britt?

Maybe too I would add Kinte Bess or any of the Kinley boys....

Malachi Maxwell from Madison Southern was as "special" as they come. He led the state in rushing in 2002 with well over 2000 yards. He just finished playing at EKU as a special teamer...His lateral movement was as good as is got.

Jelani Brandon at Lloyd was a very good football and baseball player in his day and a tremedous young man.

 

The Dayton brothers from the 60's we at Lloyd at fits with were the Eddie brothers (Herbie, Fred and Bobbie) and of course the Wilburn brothers (Sam and Fred) we had some tremendous battle's. JD

 

:thumb:I remember as a kid watching them play and they were all great high school football players on some very strong Dayton teams including a State Championship in 1966.

Moss would have to be the best overall..Unbeleivable ability to stop on a dime and then explode through a hole, plus he had excellent balance and strength..His runningmate for a couple of years was right up there too, John Redd..He went on to Missouri and had a solid college career...There's been several others I'd place ahead of Bright...

The Parrott in the late 70's, early 80's was Charles "Pinky" Parrott.. He was a great player but best on the defensive side of the ball and played fullback because of Redd and Moss being there at the same time.

 

Actually Redd was the fullback his junior year. Pinky was the other tailback. Jon's sophomore year he was a back-up tailback. His senior year he was the stud tailback. Man he could fly! Marcus Moss did the most amazing things in high school. He is the best from Mayfield.

The backs that I enjoyed the most were Fisher and Greg Hawkins. Hawkins was not better than any of the previously mentioned, BUT he sure was tough.

 

Chris Jones of Danville would have been one of the UK great's if not for a terrible knee injury in college.

Lindsey Hudspeth of Murray was pretty dang tough (I hate to say someone from Murray was tough).:laugh:

Alfred Collins (Sonny) was unbelievable. Had a pretty good fullback also in Fred Jones.

Mark Higgs made people hold their breath when he touched the ball.

Union County had Tim Joiner who went to Arkansas.

Hopkinsville had Artose Pinner. He was a man amongst boys! Literally!:lol:

Eric Shelton was a beast at Bryan Station. He had over 1200 yards in the playoffs alone in his junior year.

I am amazed at the list everyone has put out. There have truly been some great players in the state. I wonder if Horning was a QB or RB at Flaget? I would say he was a pretty good runner in the pro's.

At Henderson Co, Barry "bang-bang" Skaggs still holds single season & carear rushing records. He played 75-77 i think. However, had he not gotten hurt and missed out on his senior season in 06, i think Cedric Rainey woulda challenged for that. We have had some good ones here, Damon Carter in 91,Jonathan Jackson in 98, Alex Fendric in 02 to name a few!

I agree that Tim is special, but you must not be old enough to have seen Alan play. He was a state champion track star and also had the power and size to run over and punish people. He had the moves to make people miss if he chose to. I have not seen a better RB at the high school level since. If Tim had about 40 more pounds, I might reconsider.
