Catholic's D struggled especially in the secondary. They seemed very lost when it came to either stopping the sweep or covering the receiver. Offensively, Catholic's run game was the biggest weakness. Without any risk there, Ensworth was able to rush at will and drop back in coverage. Bolin looked good. The kid can throw and make plays, that said, he really only had two targets he was able to go to. Lex Cath will have to shore up on defense and work on the run game for sure. Tough lesson yesterday.

Heard Lex Cath had begun to distance themselves in this one. Any word?

No offense to Boyle, but they ran into a good team. Everyone I talked to after the JH vs Lex Cath game said simply that the Knights could match their speed, but no answer for Hardin's size and it ultimately wore them down. Trinity and Highlands are a notch above everyone, but this team and Bowling Green have to be right there on the next tier.

I think the thing we are seeing from Lex Cath is that they can score, and they can score against teams with defenses that aren't that bad. Flip side, Lex Cath's D still needs work.

Wow, that is called a spanking. Like everyone else, expected a win, even thought a decent sized one, but not that.

As a whole Deuce, Lexington/Fayette Co. High School is a bit down. The city itself produces some good talent, but I would almost guarantee that if you looked across all the teams in the City, they are very incomplete. One team may have lots of speed and athleticism, little size. Another team has good Size and Strength, no real speed or athletes. Its somethings I've said about Lexington for awhile, the talent is distributed across the city so that it rarely seems that anyone school anymore is able to really dominate. The emergence of Lex Cath the past 15 years and LCA the past 8 years or so has also taken a toll on the larger schools. Just enough players go to one of the two private schools instead of their Public district school, and thus a team suffers. Another issue many people point out in Lexington football is that the organization of youth football leagues is not necessarily the best and especially at the middle school level can be seen as lacking.

Tough one to tell but it sounds based upon scores/opinions that H is definately down right now. Hope LCHS comes out strong and picks up a W.

This one should give people an idea of the Lex Cath/Boyle Co. matchup I'd think. JH beat LCHS by 10 in a high scoring affair.

I don't know of late but I think for Harvard yes. There have been a few Princeton and Columbia guys out of Lex Cath though I don't remember any Harvard commits since Ryan.

I like to stay optimistic about having good close competitive games, but on paper at least to this casual observer it seems likely unless injuries to Highlands (I've kinda been out of the High School Football loop lately) are an issue I don't know about.

Blowout 4 of the Finals?

Tough schedules definately help teams especially from classes like 2A or 3A or even 1A for that matter get prepared for their playoff runs. I'd say all three State Champs from these classes had to face a couple tough out of region folks. So in terms of their dominance in 3A yeah, I'd say a bit has to do with who they play. I mean heck, after going up against the likes of a Male, Manual, or St. X I'd say rarely does Belfry, Moore, or even Paducah Tilghman seem that tough let alone a Somerset, Breathitt, or even E-Town. (not saying these teams aren't 3A good, just not on the same plain as the before mentioned 6A schools. Still, I'd say as a whole how would Central stack up against the 2A or 4A champ would be a better indicator of how good they are. I just am not impressed overall with the 3A as a whole usually with the exception of Central.

I never liked the idea of six classes and never will. Just my personal opinon. We already had a diluted playoff system at times with four classes. Six simply dilutes it further. And I don't need to know that class A, AA, and AAA title games were blowouts to make this claim. And I don't really care that 4A was a close and sounds like pretty good game to think otherwise. There will always be potential for great matchups regardless of the breakdown of class. Bell and Boyle will happen whether 4 classes or 6 classes exist. Highlands, Boyle, Lex Cath, Cov Cath, Bell, Lawernce Co, Rockcastle Co. though only happens with 4 classes and frankly I liked that. Personal preference I guess.

Depends on which Lex Cath team shows up. This team isn't necessarily bad, they have talent. However, its young and inexperienced. I like the close predictions.

Alright, now having read the thread, I get the impression and rightly so that like I thought, the score definately doesn't give a full picutre of the game. Regardless of right, wrong, or what missing a large number of players, and especially ones who play a good amount isn't easy for any team. Still, it definately looked based upon score like Lex Cath was able to wear down LCA and add on to the score in that 3rd quarter. For Lex Cath I can only say don't let this final outcome get your egos too big, you guys were on the end of a couple lopsided decisions very recently and still can improve. However, hopefully the team is starting to come around and find their footing. As for LCA, hopefully things get better next week with the situation with the suspended players and use this experience to fuel the rest of the season. Hats of too a great young program (as if Catholic was that much older) I feel that you guys will bounce back well from this past game.

Before I read anything else in this thread I will laugh at the fact that it seems all I need to do is post one negative, doubting comment on my alma mater about how I think at this point they are playing horrible and should get smacked around by LCA and they respond with a 62-0 shelling that forces me to eat lots and lots of crow. Anyways, looks like Lex Cath's D took care of business throughout. I wonder if LCA's missing players also really contributed to this final outcome.

I don't know, based upon the past few weeks it seems like Lex Cath is still a long way from putting things together. The Cov Cath debacle was very jarring. Not to criticize or bash Madison Central too much but Lex Cath should have run all over them (and seemingly did based on the stats, though penalties hurt). Still when a team is missing key players like Central was Lex Cath still couldn't finish them off till late. It is an in city opponent and Lex Cath definately will be wanting the win, still I think LCA might have their number this year. Lex Cath managed an upset win last year which definately gives LCA reason for wanting revenge.

Seems?? No doubt. Talent is at Lex Cath but it is either young and inexperienced or lacking in size and leadership. I hate to ever say it but I see LCA as a 2 TD or more favorite in this one.

A question to any more current Lex Cath fans or grads but how serious does Lex Cath take their JV program? Having come up in the Lex Cath program from middle school to varsity, I always felt like JV was only so so in terms of importance. Freshman ball sometimes had more given to it sometimes. The JV team was usually mediocre to poor at least offensively with maybe only one or two younger guys getting any snaps at the JV level who were potential stars coming up at the Varsity level. Defensively Lex Cath was usually a little better on the JV team with many of the younger linebackers or linemen getting a chance to learn the sets and get some extra snaps. I know while I was there the defense was to usually prep the star freshmen and sophmores who were tagged to become starters on the varsity the next season. This was before Coach Letton so no clue if things have changed since he has been in charge. Just wondering.

Ha, best quote of this is that the only way to beat Male was to outscore them. Probably very true. I remember the season before in 2001 beating Male who had a combination of Sergio Spencer, Chris Barclay, Bush, and Blackerby(sp?) as QB. That game was one where we (Lex Cath) simply managed to start scoring in bunches and were lucky enough to hold Male to some field goal attempts. That next season 2002 we got to play Male in the regular season and have Bush simply run, pass, and recieve all over us that game. Course I remember also opening the season with a scrimmage against Trinity and Brohm that showed me just how dangerous both guys can be at the quarterback slot. Bush/Brohm were two great players at a great time in Kentucky highschool history.

Gotta think the 43rd district is going to be one heck of a tournament. Tates Creek and Lexington Catholic, Dunbar and LCA as opening round games. Lafayette versus either Lex Cath or Tates Creek as well. All elimination games. Once again this district is very tough to get out of even to make it to the region.

Lex Cath originally wanted to play Word of God but due to them not being sanctioned by the North Carolina High School Association, Lex Cath apparently wasn't allowed to play them. Thus the next best thing was at least getting them to showcase their talent at Lex Cath.
