Coach Hard

Again, I'm sure there is quite a few really solid high school coaches that never played a down of college football. I really don't see that point at all. That being said, has anyone heard of any solid leads as to who is going after this position. I figured this to be a big one. Isn't Madison County one of the higher paying public school spots in the state? Seems like I heard that when the Madison Southern job was open a couple of years ago.

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with footballhd here. What would that have to do with anything? I'm sure Coach Turner knew his system, he had ran it for quite some time. so I really don't follow the college experience idea.

Really? Station?? What's up with that? They have a lot of great talent coming up from the younger groups. Would be a good place for someone.

I heard that they had 70+ kids today to start the winter weight program. Sounds like they are really headed in the right direction.

I couldn't imagine McKee would leave Scott County. He is the AD and his wife works there. Just couldn't see the positives outweighing the negatives for him.

Seemed like a lot of flags overall at the whole bowl. Stripes were calling it close all night. Savoy is a stud!!! Excellent quickness and acceleration. Game was really close in the first half, 14-0 I think. Then it got rolling pretty quickly in the second half.

They should have a strong group of Sophmores and Juniors this year.

Just a little theory of mine with the whole lifting weights issue. How is lifting weights young, any different than working on a farm, bailing hay, pinning down pigs, etc? That's resistance training. I know it is a little off topic, but I think if kids have done that for centuries, I'm sure bench press, squat, and deadlifting won't hurt them.

Man, I've heard rumors around the region. We haven't heard from the coach himself on here for a while. What's going on in Irvine?

For some smaller schools, I would like to see the use of a true double wing system. It really lends itself well to eliminating the need for a large line, you don't need one stud running back, and more kids get a chance to run the ball. Plus, I love the ground and pound philosophy of a run heavy offense that focuses on controlling the ball and the clock. Come on 1A football!!! Look at the success that Estill county had with this system (which to my knowledge they will not be doing now with the new coach). Get those splits tight and play football in a phone booth!!!

As a big fan of 1A football, I really hope Berea can resolve any issues they may or may not have with discipline, and take care of things on the field. Honestly, I'm really pulling for this little team from southern Madison county. Considering this team was on the brink of being gone, I really hope for the kids' sakes they can continue to keep things going in a positive direction, both on and off the field. Good Luck Pirates!

I agree about the QB. He's nice and tall, a little on the lean side, but I saw him play against Williamsburg in the playoffs 2 years ago, and he played well beyond his years. He can throw and doesn't mind to get physical and run an option in when needed. Could be the difference maker that could pull the Eagles back into contention for the district.

While I admit, I look for them to be a little down this year, I do look forward to seeing if the new coach can stir up some fire down in Campbellsville. From what I've read about the guy, he seems to be a good one. Campbellsville needed a young, talented, and hungry coach. I'm glad to see the hire happen. I wish the Eagles the best in 2009.

In other levels, I can't see Estill being quite as effective this year either. They lost quite a bit on both sides.

What about Louisville Central? There isn't much talk on here about them, yet they have been TOUGH the last couple of seasons. Was it just a good group that came through, or was it are they just becoming one of the best in state consistently? My pick for down this year in 1A, would be Campbellsville. I know that isn't a stretch, but after the high expectations (pre-season top 10 by me and many others on here) that they failed to attain last year, I don't see them turning things around for a couple years.

Any opinions on what teams you expect to noticable improve from last year? Any you suspect of being down? Sounds like Hazard should make a deep run, possibly make it to state. Can Raceland and LCA keep it up? Any surprises you guys see? This is just for fun...:thumb:

In the first year of Madison Central's first year of having a wrestling program, they sent 2. One @ 215 and one @ 145. Congratulations. That may sound like chump change to many, but for a first year program that is something to be proud of.

Garrard has a core of young, talented, and enthusiastic coaches. I look forward to seeing them climb the ladder again. I think this is a team to watch out for in this region in the next few years.

I asked the same question, and really just got a shoulder shrug. They must have pretty much figured this guy to be a lock and it didn't work out. Sorry to hear about the whole situation for the entire program.

I know some of the Estill folks really close to the situation, and yes, I would basically confirm this. I believe it happened the night before a press conference was going to happen to announce him as the new coach. I don't know the guy. He seems well liked on here, but what is the deal with this???
