einstein
A few of us have been reminiscing recently when this subject came up. Just curious if anyone remembers a former Cawood coach named John Luttrell. I was curious where what kind of coach he was and where he is now..I heard he did a good job
Mama Bear
Lt. Col. John Luttrell served our country in Iraq with the rest of "The Mountian Warriors". Google that and I am sure you'll find some good newspaper articles about him.
WideTackle6
John is a class act. I'm not sure where he is now, but prior to his deployment to Iraq he was an instructor in the ROTC program at the University of Kentucky. I can't imagine him doing a bad job at anything. A truly good person and great American.
Youth Coach
I have heard strong rumors of a run for political office by Mr. Luttrell. He would be formidable and commands a lot of respect.
HDE
I think John is back home. I saw him Friday. He started with a very young team when he took over as head coach at Cawood, but built them into a pretty good squad. His best team lost by one at Newport in one of the more competitive playoff games I've seen.
Leonidas
John is a good person and done a great service to our Country. He also did a pretty good job coaching. As far as I know he is still at UK???
Cawoodball player
I played for coach Luttrell for two games my freshman season before he left for the ROTC program at the University of Kentucky. That was in 2001, and when the twin towers were attacked, he left UK for Iraq. I absolutely LOVED coach Luttrell! He may not have been the best at X's and O's, but he was a master motivator, and really cared about his players.

Thanks[/quote Hey coach, what about that double handoff with the influence block that Breathitt had such a hard time that night with over at Holcomb stadium. I still get a kick out of that and the back, to back holding call when the trojans were going in for the kill. You had a darn good team that year! Mountain Warrior
25 Counter, our double hand off worked great all year and then we changed up the Quick Tackles block by having him pass influence. Breathitt had worked on the waggle so hard that the DE shot straight up the field taking himself out of the play. As far the holding calls, I just hate that it was taken out of the kids hands. Not Mike Holcombs fault, I have great respect for him. Yes, that was a special team.
DADDY CAT
Colonel, I served with you for many years in the Guard and let me be one of the first to welcome you on here. It was a privelege to serve with you in the 1/149th in both it's 35th ID and 42nd ID days! I was one of your commo guys. I hope something in mountain football finds it's way to you soon. We need you back. Congratulations on the retirement. :thumb:

lungbuster
I played for coach Luttrell for two games my freshman season before he left for the ROTC program at the University of Kentucky. He may not have been the best at X's and O's, but he was a master motivator, and really cared about his players. It would be a much better world if Coach Lutrell had the chance to touch all the youth this great nation has to offer. I hope you land back in coaching and fast because the kids of today need you more than one can understand. A great leader both on and off the field for high school kids and a darn good football coach to boot!
