  1. Wing-T which is similiar to the Double Wing, just a little more versatile in my opinion. We are extremely young and some young men will have to step up for us to be competitive this coming year.
  2. Coach Thomas will not run the Offense. He has his own business and he felt like there might be days when he would not be able to be at practice. Since, I put this offense together and have the most working knowledge of it. It only makes sense for me to run it for at least the first year. I have some very great young coaches coming up like Coach "Mo" Moore. Also, the hiring of Edwin Allen as my Defensive Coordinator would wrap up my staff. I have the complete support of the Administration to hire him, it just depends on working out the teaching assignment. Edwin and I played at Union together, he coached for about 9 years at Pulaski Southwestern, and has DC experience. Bottom Line: like I told our kids the last day of spring ball, what they do between now and July 15th will determine how our season goes. If they wait until July 15th to get ready to play, well, let's just say it will be a long season. Coach L
  3. The Engineers had a great spring practice today! I am excited.
  4. Don't know about that but it is the exact mileage from Estill County High School to the field where the 3A State Football Championship will be played! Just in case anyone is wondering.
  5. I am totally impressed with the young men and the community support up to this point. There are going to be some nice add on's for our home games, so come out and see one. I give great credit to Coach Jones for such a solid weight lifting program. We will keep that exactly the same with a couple of minor additions like jump rope and pull ups, but you can tell those young me have been in the weight room. Kudo's to Mike for that. Finally, does anyone want to take a guess at what the significance of the number 203 is for Engineer Football?
  6. I would like to thank everyone for the kind words and support. I will not be posting on here very much at all. However, I would like to say a few things; 1)the administration has been great to me thus far, 2) my mission is to make better young men out of the Estill football players as well as make them Champions, 3) I can't not tell you how many games we will win but I can promise you that we will hit hard and be agressive with as many defenders around the ball as possible, that we will play every down as hard as we can like it is our last, and that we will be in top condition. I have a staff about 90% complete who I feel extremely comfortable with and share the same passion as I for taking young men and teaching them how to be the best they can be and to become solid citizens of the community. Finally, a new coach and a young team etc. etc. etc. is all I hear. Folks, none of that matters when we get between the lines. What matters is what I can get those young men to believe in and pu their hearts into. Don't count us out, God bless. Coach Luttrell
  7. Done, official, it will be announced at halftime of the double header basketball game in Estill County tonight. I want to thank everyone for there prayers and support. Looks like I am an Engineer! Let's get started.
  8. That was a possibility. However, there is a bigger push for me in the political arena in Harlan. Honestly, EC is really a perfect fit for me coaching wise. If a few things that I feel are totally reasonable can be worked out, I think we have a match.
  9. The best I can tell everyone is that the issue should be resolved by the weekend, regardless. I know my wife feels as if I have a calling to work with young men and coach. However, I want to make sure this decision is what God is leading me to do. I love Harlan County as well, and there are lots of things needing done there. Please keep my family and I in your prayers as we make this decision.
  10. Folks, I owe an answer to you. First of all, it is not a done deal. There are some issues that the Administration and I have to work out in order for me to take the job. Leonidas is right, I am in a good situation and can make sure it is the right place for me. It is not salary, which most people think of first. It has to do with other aspects of a quality program. The good thing is Estill has a great principal in Blaine Click and it would not surprise me if we worked things out.
  11. Yes, and I am proud, honored, and humbled at this awesome responsibility!
  12. And, it is not the refrigerator. That name was already taken. My nickname was a smaller appliance. Seriously, this WED at 4:00, I would love to, what is going on?
  13. Folks, I have found a home (Team) and I am extremely excited! More to follow. John
  14. 25 Counter, our double hand off worked great all year and then we changed up the Quick Tackles block by having him pass influence. Breathitt had worked on the waggle so hard that the DE shot straight up the field taking himself out of the play. As far the holding calls, I just hate that it was taken out of the kids hands. Not Mike Holcombs fault, I have great respect for him. Yes, that was a special team.
  15. This is John Luttrell and I appreciate all of the kind comments. I am getting ready to retire from the Military and would like to get back into coaching. I have actually applied for a few jobs. Thanks
