NamecipS
15. Cin - Devin Mesaraco - Punxsutawney HS, Pa. - C 6-1, 195, bats RH Devin Mesoraco, C, Punxsutawney H.S. (Pa.), 6-1, 205. Among the highest risers this year with Parker and Phillippe Aumont, Mesoraco leapt past Yasmani Grandal as the top prep catcher available. Despite undergoing Tommy John surgery two years ago, Mesoraco enthralls scouts with his arm and steady bat. For some reason, that pick just doesn't feel all that good to me. This pick would have seemed to make more sense.... Blake Beavan, RHP, Irving H.S. (Texas), 6-7, 210. Made name for himself last fall when he struck out 11 for Team USA in a shutout of Cuba at the World Junior Championship. Threw perfect game in which he struck out 18 batters this spring, as well as a 15-strikeout performance. Sidearmer allowed only two earned runs in 11 starts. Has fiery attitude on mound – once was ejected for yelling at opposing fans – but scouts like his self-confidence.

It's not like guys don't ever come back from that ... And like GT said, the Reds are thin at catcher on the farm.

I don't think TJ surgery is as big of a deal as it might sound . He's not a pitcher. Heck, kids are having TJ surgery now to add velocity to their throws. While TJ surgery is serious and the rehab, can be extensive....For a catcher, it's minimal risk, unlike a pitcher. Pitchers throw anywhere between 85-115 pitches, with maximum velocity and catchers, perhaps 10-12 per game. Limited stress on ligaments and tendons. I'm with JS and GT, create depth at positions and from his SR, he sounds like a potential prospect.....Pop-times and hitting, are a great combo for catchers. Jim Schue
Six of the first 23 picks are lefty pitchers. I'll say it again, why couldn't I have been born left-handed?
