Pros of this job: you should host a playoff game relatively easily for the next three years

Cons: you’ll never win the district

Regardless, I hope the Commanders can get a solid coach that will keep kids coming out.

Winning your district is nice but if you can get 2nd place, host a playoff game, and  you can beat the teams in the district you are matched up with then the 1st place finish is just icing on the cake.  If you are consistently playing in the 3rd round of playoffs your program is a great job.

Agreed on the last part, which, for Washington County (and, many others) has been the issue dating back to several coaches and good ones at that. I have no idea if the admin chose to go in a different direction or if Eric chose to step away on his own accord. However, it's been a struggle there regardless of who it is.

Their last region final birth was in '97 if not mistaken. Tim Mattingly, who has been at Central Hardin since 2014 was the head Commander from 01-03 and finished with a win percentage of 40% (what Sagrecy finished at as well)  He's only gone onto win two 6A Region Titles at Central Hardin, and coaching in his 5th this Friday.

Mark Perry was at Washington from 04-10 and finished with a win percentage of 47%. They went 9-2 in 2010 (he was at Washington for 7 years, and had 3 winning seasons) and he then left for Central Hardin (never won less than 5 games) & in 2011 where he guided them to a 2013 6A Region Final, and then left to go to Lexington Catholic from '14-'17 where he never failed to take his Knights to at least a Region final, winning 2 of them and having a State Runner Up team.

Their alignments and geography has done them no favors whatsoever. From 2011-2023 (and, even back to sometime during Perry's years) they were in districts-cross districts with the likes  CAL, DeSales, Bardstown, LCA, Somerset, Glasgow and/or Danville among others. This year? They finally get away from having multiple of those schools in their district (and/or region), having "just" LCA and they finish 7-4.

Eight winning seasons dating back to 1998 and four coaches, two of which went onto OTHER places, while struggling to find success there, and coach those teams to a total of 10 region final appearances, four region titles and one state runner up.

Coach Sagrecy accepted an assistant principal job and stepped away on his own accord. He wanted focus on that and to enjoy more time with his children, who are now at the age of playing sports. Coach Sagrecy is the definition of Washington County football. The man mowed and painted the fields all summer and all season. He gave rides to and from practice to kids who would have never had a chance make it had he not been there. He helped players make grades so they could graduate when nobody else cared if they did. He came to work everyday and gave every ounce he had to the program, its players, his staff, and the community. He won some games and he lost some games as most small schools do. He was the first Commander coach in 19 years to win a playoff game. Always faced with some of the toughest districts in the class and state he never failed to do everything in his power to prepare his team. He did things right and ran one of the cleanest programs you will ever see. He went to battle with Washington County kids and was proud to do it no matter the result. His players and staff loved and respected him and his impact will last a lifetime. He left the program in better shape than he found it. There are several years of young talent ahead and with the current alignment success is possible. The administration is great, very supportive and accommodating. A new facility/field is coming hopefully by next season. Who ever gets the job will certainly have opportunities. I just hope it’s someone who cares and gives there all for the program like Eric Sagrecy did. He is a great man, a great coach and a friend. Go Commanders
