Depends if a crop of talent is about to come through Taylor Mill or not. Joe has done a great job chasing talent and then graduating it. I think it would do more for his resume to stick in Mason Co. and show he can develop some guys too.

This is an interesting take. 

What coach chasing talent takes the Newport job after they won 4 games in 3 years or the Mason County job after they won 12 games in 3 years? 

How would a coach have known or even thought these teams had a crop of talent based on those records?

Alternative - Coach Wynn, after taking on his new position, finds athletes who might not otherwise play, develops both them and current players to reach their potential on the field and in the classroom.

While I do feel Coach Wynn has done a great job at Mason County, everyone in this area knew they were going to be loaded the past 2 seasons.  Most of this years seniors started as sophomores and some even as freshman.  Coach Thomas was definitely building for the future his last season there.

Coach Wynn did get those guys to buy into his systems and play at a top level.  He also did a great job of getting kids out that hadn't been out before. 

So, don't take this in any way as a knock on Coach Wynn.  I am just stating that he did inherit a lot of talent at Mason County.

It's a combination of each of these takes actually. 

Coach Wynn is great dude and a very good football coach. Anyone who talked to people who played Newport the year before he took over knew they weren't awful and returned some dudes. They took lumps the year before Joe was there because they were young and undisciplined. It wasn't a bare cupboard job. 

Once the talent graduated, he knew the years Newport has had since his departure were coming. He saw a good opportunity in Mason Co. and took it (as ANY coach would). Mason was another opportunity that while they struggled, had young talented DUDES who were only going to get bigger, stronger and more experienced/disciplined.

What Coach Wynn has proven to be one of the best at doing is taking the talent a school has coming through the system and keeping it on the field. He promotes his guys the best of anyone out there, get them to graduation and opens up doors for them that way. He proved at Newport he is one of the best at guiding young men to have disciplined on and off the field, as it was one of Newport's biggest issues before he arrived and much less of an issue once he was there. 

Lastly, I after reading my comment, I see where it looked like a knock on Coach Wynn, which isn't intended at all. I do believe that his resume would improve by sticking at a place AFTER graduating a talented class and proving he can build it over again, but as Coach Prime said, "in coaching you're getting promoted or terminated," so if he moved on I understand that too. 

If I was Casey Fisk, he would be among the top of my applicants at Scott.

To be a 5A school with solid facilities in a great location and we’ve only heard one name mentioned on the forum. Does Joe Wynn have it locked up, is no one applying for the job, or is Scott Admin holding their cards close to the chest?

Noticed on their Facebook page yesterday still asking for interested parties to send in resume and cover letter. 

Assuming that means they have yet to hold any interviews and believe I read they’d like to make announcement mid-February, although I personally believe it should be the sooner than that to allow new coach to immediately get in the weight room with the kids and start building relationships.

Heard around 12-15 applications as of a few days ago.

Agree that getting the new coach in place as soon as possible is ideal for the coach's relationships with players, but it's also really important to make sure the administrators are sifting through the applicants to identify the right candidates as well.

After managing the open jobs master-thread for the last 7 or 8 years, I'd say mid-February is pretty average for tapping a new head coach...if not slightly ahead of the curve.

Agreed with that assessment, especially since they still are fielding applicants, mid February is a rather quick turn around to go through apps, multiple meetings, and announce. 
 

Obviously easier and quicker if only 12 applications.

Scott's kind of a quandary. They're in a good area for football...they have the numbers, and most of the kids in their halls are coming from households that can provide the kids with what they need. They're looking at a tough row to hoe moving up to 5A, though, and Scott is a football program that has pretty consistently under-performed.

From the couple of very good friends I have who played football at Scott, one in the 1990s and one in the early 2000s, they both said that no one cared about the football program during their time on the team (their words, not mine.) I think with the success that Danny Woolley managed to bring to the program, there's proof that there's some support there, and some good potential, but I think 5A is going to be a major struggle for the Eagles for the foreseeable future, regardless of who the football skipper may be.
