Well, there is no other job open this close to where he lives, in a district he’s familiar working in, with the facilities and set up that Scott has. This wouldn’t be like he was taking a job in Siberia where he’d not have any resources. It’s not that bad of a job. This isn’t pre 2009 Scott.

I was more on the side of saying he could take a job as an assistant somewhere, if getting back involved was his motive. Or even join SK staff as Lucas did under him. 
 

Definitely favorable location, need, and no brainer hire if he is interested. 
 

Would also be curious as how he would/or if he would remain SK AD if he still holds that position.

He’s not the AD at SK anymore. He gave that position up last year as well. Troy Roberts is the AD at SK.

And if my source confused the two, who knows. But, I have a really difficult time believing Marksberry goes from retiring at SK just and a year or two later to take the Scott position which is a significantly tougher job. And in terms of Woolley, wasn’t he the head coach previously at Scott? If it is the same guy, if I were Scott, I’d be looking in a different, fresh, and new direction than resorting back to Woolley, even though he’s the most successful coach in history there. But from what I’ve heard about the administration in numerous conversations, they are content with no making any waves, and making the easy decision like hiring from former staffs. Not to mention, why go back to a guy who left you once. And if I’m Woolley, why return? Nothing has changed at Scott yet to make this a better job. 
 

 

Depends why and how someone left. Even if they left to a bigger job, as long as they didn't burn the bridge on the way out, if you feel they can be successful why wouldn't you hire them? Life throws a lot of things at people and sometimes a change that was needed 10 years ago can be what we return to now.

That makes much more sense now. My reservations on him taking this job are essentially eliminated. 
 

 

Turns out, Marksberry is not an applicant. It was nice to think about for a little as he would have been a homerun hire.

Not sure if there is one. At this point in time, I’m not even sure if they have interviewed anyone yet lol. Who knows what’s going on.

Bob Black is the obvious choice to be Head Coach. He has been part of Eagle Football since the very first practice in 1979. He has played and coached at every level of the Program. From the Youth Level, Middle School, JV and Varsity. Bob was a great player,  a great coach and a great man. #eaglepride

Being a good guy, and even being loyal…

those are not qualifications for HC of a 5A program.

He was the Head JV for a couple of years as well as the Offensive Line Coach for Years. Currently the 8th grade Head Coach. A loyal good guy with varsity and Head Coaching experience is something Scott needs. #Qualified

IMO, Scott needs to get creative with this hire, find someone young who can bring a whole new energy and culture to the program.

What does "young" have to do with being the right person at the right time? 

Exhibit 1: Noel Rash ... Probably one of the more "energetic" coaches in this state ... Pretty sure he is pushing 60. I doubt anyone younger can bring the same type of energy he brings (not to mention there are 2 guys on his staff who are 70 who bring more energy than the overwhelming majority of coaches I have seen in the last 40 years).

 

Point being ...Scott should find the right person ...youth and energy are byproducts of great coaches ...not mandatory hiring points. Experience and the ability to lead and most importantly ...getting kids to do things they don't think they can do are traits few (if any) young coaches have mastered.

For the life of me I do not understand why schools like this don't pound the pavement, contact successful head coaches to see if they have assistants who are interested in being head coaches. Business as usual = waiting to see who applies ...then the same committee garbage (knowing the principal has ultimate hiring and firing authority). Which continues to produce the same results.

So, not a shot at you, Conch .... Just not so sure I agree.
