Sweet 16® Draw

It takes 4 wins, just Four Wins to win the tournament. Why should teams perceived to be the best get the best draw to make it easier for them? If they are truly the best they'll win and advance against any competition. Random draw for all 16 is the fairest way to do it...in my opinion the only way.

As we saw last week, teams perceived to be the best got boat raced. But if the Sweet 16 was last week those teams in a seeded tournament would have got the easiest matchup to ensure they wouldn't meet until the finals.

You just can't seed state wide accurately when teams play such varied schedules and competition.

I vote we allow the AP member who voted Henry Co as the #2 team in the state, thinking it was St Henry, seed the tournament.  That would be fun.  Ballard Memorial, Trinity (Whitesville) & Covingto

Impossible to do it fairly.

No it’s not.

So tell me your plan. Who seeds the teams? I hope it’s not the same people who had North Laurel ranked #1

I’ve said this before. I’ve ran wrestling tournaments with 300+ competitors from 4 or 5 states, 80% of which I’ve never seen in person, and many of those I’ve never even heard of. Using a computer and standard criteria I can seed 15 different brackets with 90 percent accuracy. Am I supposed to believe it’s impossible to seed a 16 team basketball tournament? It’s not rocket science.

A computer.  Can we use the RPI as it is currently? Definitely not. Adjustments can be made, tweaked, and implemented, and a very reliable and effective computer rating system can be used. No bias, no opinion, just numbers.

I'd even settle for a compromise and using RPI to seed the top 4 and then blind draw the rest of the bracket. (And yes, I know RPI isn't perfect but insert whatever rankings formula you want).

Good points.  IMO, there is also no equitable way to seed teams when, like this year, the top 3 teams in the last State rankings are all private schools.  There’s a reason for that.  I’ll never be convinced that a classless system is the best tourney model.  Sure, if you’re one of “those” programs, but if you’re in the majority of “everybody else,” it’s not nearly as fun.  The game has changed soo much over the last 40 years, I just think it’s time for KY to go to a class system in the playoffs.  The rich get richer is what’s happened.  Even many of the biggest schools are struggling to compete and I think the public / private draw is a contributing factor.

So maybe the 16th can win a game...

Do we know what kind of capacity they are allowing?

15% was the number in late January.  I have to think it will be well more than that.

According to a March 2nd KHSAA press release, a specific number hasn't been determined, but more information will be provided in the "coming days."

I think it's 25% for schools right now.  That would be around 5500 in Rupp.

In the lower bracket, there could be some interesting rematches by regular season opponents in the quarterfinals:

Johnson Central v. Ashland

DeSales v. Cov Cath

Some folks might be getting the neutral court rematch they're hoping for in the semifinal.

?

Hope Kentucky NEVER goes to classes for basketball.  Sometimes tradition is still the way to go.

Before we talk about seeding the Sweet 16 we need to start with seeding district tournaments.

Are there still some districts that still don't seed?
