Holy Cross 67 Holmes 56

Recommended Posts

It was a tournament time atmosphere tonight at the Fieldhouse on the campus of Holmes High School in the last 35th District seeding game that would finally decide who plays who in the 35th District first round.

What was on the line: If Holmes had won it would cause a 3 way tie between Holmes, Beechwood and Holy Cross, then a blind draw to see who would face the Number 1 seed 3-0 CovCath.

If Holy Cross won, then Holmes automatically is the 4th seed and therefore would be playing CovCath. Big implication for teams trying to make it into the 9th Region tournament.

The Holmes Bulldogs essentially controlled the first half leading by 9 at the break, then pushing that lead up to 17 to start the 3rd period before the Holy Cross Indians kicked in into gear to overcome to win by 11.

At the end of 1 it was Holmes 18-10

At the Half Holmes 31-22

At the end of 3 Holmes 45-44

Final 67-56

After Holmes had built a 40-24 lead, then it was Holy Cross 43-16 from there on out.

Jacob Meyer led all scorers with 21

Brandon McClendon had 17

Jeramiah Hicks had 13

Xavier Ward with 10

Quantez Calloway 15

L.C. Brown, and Eian Elmer 13 apiece.

Great report as usual, I was thinking like you, what a atmosphere, it was so awesome to see both sides open, the band playing and I actually had to turn the microphone up for the first time this year. Jacob Meyer is a pleasure to watch, my first look at Holy Cross this year, also glad to see some of my Holy Cross friends , it’s been to long. Can’t wait for the districts at Holmes.

This was an exciting game throughout with up and down action. Holy Cross came out a little slow and Holmes took advantage and really took it to Holy Cross for the first 20 minutes of the game and would take a 40-24 lead with 4:00 to go in the 3rd quarter. The Indians needed to change the momentum and would start pressing full court and were able to get back into the game forcing turnovers from the Bulldogs and get some easy baskets. They would go on a 43-16 run the last 12 minutes of the game and eventually outscored the Bulldogs 45-25 in the 2nd half.

With the win, Holy Cross (13-8) will be the #2 seed in the 35th district and play the #3 seed Beechwood.

Unofficial stats from Holy Cross Radio-

HC - 10 12 22 23 - 67

HHS 19 13 14 11 - 56

Holy Cross (13-8) - Meyer 21, McClendon 17, Hicks 13, Ward 10, Robinson 6.

Holmes (3-13) - Q. Callaway 15, Brown 15, Elmer, 13, Meyer 6, T. Callaway 4, Hayes 2, Hall 1.
