I would think you would have to go back to the drawing board, right? The previous list of coaches has all been told they picked someone else over them. Wouldn't the right move be to expand the search? Or is this a case where the secondary choice is just a good as the primary?

I have to think they're going to have to at very least re-conduct some interviews before making their next hire. I would assume the job is back to being completely open at this point.

How about Dale Mueller come back for this year?  Or what about Zach Deaton?  He has head coaching experience.

I think you open it up again. Expand it. Be open to some things. If previous applicants reapply or are interviewed again so be it. It’s not like the James and possibly Wolfe are chop liver. It’s not like you got passed over by some no name.

If they select someone from the original group of candidates, it makes it a tough sell for the new coach. How could you expect the kids to by in right away when they know you weren't the first choice.

Also, stop with this “never get another job.” This isn’t common but it isn’t uncommon. Chuck Smith took the Madison Central job and then immediately left for Boyle. This stuff happens. Don’t knock a guy for reconsidering. You might have hated what you ended up with.

Yes. Took a job with Georgetown college then saw that they were going to hire Jason Foley (current coach at Southwestern) and ran back. Hence, why there’s a lot of bad blood between the two right now.
