Ok so this how this legally works. The boosters cannot simply give money to a coach. They can give money to the district but the stipend has to be voted on and changed. I’m just using these numbers to keep it simple. 
 

The HC stipend is 5K. The boosters want to increase the HC stipend by another 5K. The district must vote and change the coaching stipend to 10k. The boosters provide the money to the school to make up for it. The thing is if the boosters decide to no longer pay 5K the district is on the hook for the 5K and the HC stipend would remain 10K until the district voted to change it. 
 

The rules/laws are pretty clear what booster funds can and cannot be used on. I can tell from comments a lot of people don’t know the hoops you have to jump through just to buy coaches gear to wear. 
 

Also the idea that football brings in massive amounts of money that pays for all kinds of things. This isn’t college football. Granted in most cases football is the biggest money sport but not always. It also depends on how the school system handles things like gate money and other factors. 
 

Now could say individuals offer another individual money to do a public appearance or other things to supplement their income or maybe do that individual some favors that have a monetary value? Yes. That is getting creative.

Meaning in today's world you could do a Q/A on Facebook for 5K.

Aw, come on, you're the one that got me to change how I felt about it over the weekend.  I've just decided, I liked Game of Thrones, and I'm going to choose to interpret this one as the principal being King Joffrey thinking he's in charge, and finally the moneyed interests in Fort Thomas (aka Tywin) have decided to win this war for him.   At least that's how I'm choosing to see it.

Don't get me wrong, I got a kick out of it too, but I have never watched Game of Thrones so when you couple that with him not being allowed to actually report on the Highlands coaching situation it is all a nothing burger.
