I thought that the "pass being bad" quote was attributed to Coach Woodrow Hayes.

Let me just say if I am wrong in my prediction (Male wins this one) I will be here on Saturday, Monday at the latest admitting I was wrong. How many of you can say the same thing? I really have no dog in this fight, I have kids I either coached or coached against in the lower ranks on both teams Friday night.

Shoot, I don't really know who said it first...I know the Bear said it after our QB threw an interception.

Hey anyone know if ICN-2 will be airing this on tape delay Saturday, like they did with the Male-X game? I think this could be one of those games that needs to be taped and watched over and over again as was the 2002 State Final game.

Neyland was a scary but witty guy. I remember one sports writer saying when I was in High School that the UT team was joined together by love for, respect for and a healthy dose of fear of, the General. I always thought Neyland said that first and others just picked up on it but that is just my memory of how things went.

^ High risk..... high gain. Nick has been tossing the pigskin to these guys for 4 years now.... I'd say take the risk.

Normally I would be there for this one, because usually Trinity just knocked us out of the playoffs, but this year were still in it!

 

I have respect the Trinity Program a lot after playing there twice in the playoffs, and attending a few games between our programs since. They always play at a very high level in the playoffs, and I know that Male is dominating this year, but I like Trinity's offense against Male's man to man D. It works good when your guarding 2 WR's against X, but not when there's 4 and 5 against Trinity. Dogs could be up early, but I think Petrino pulls out a big win in the second half.

This is a game not for the faint of heart. Both sides are here to show that they are the bigger and better team. There isn't much finese to the Male team this year. They challenge your wide outs with man coverage, they force you block more blitzers than there are blockers, they force your D-Line to stop a run by running a play untill you can stop it, they will be pressuring Nick all game, and there speed will challenge our pass coverage abilities. This game makes one prove who is simply the bigger, stronger, faster, and better man. No matter what play is called by either side, it will come down to whose the better man. This is the game any true competitor hungers for; it is their chance to prove their greatness. Male and Trinity are in control of their own fates and this friday is gonna be the game of the year.

If I have been properly informed, Nick Petrino has not thrown an interception since the first game against Montgomery Bell Academy.

 

I have always felt that he makes excellent decisions with the football.

Punts- Male punter has a strong leg and will hit deep high punts. He doesn't get much practice or neither does Trinity's punter. Male will come after slow punters once a game but typically set up Beaumont to return. He has returned quite a few for TD's this year. When Male punts the ball, they did cover well. Hang time helps in coverage.

 

 

First off, great analysis.

However Trinity's punter was the first team all state punter last year (bluegrassprep & AP) He has commited to UK and is averaging more than 48 yards per and tons of height. advantage T.

 

Other than that good analysis. I think Male has faster players, not that T running back is slow, he is fast also. However I just think speed goes to Male.

 

I think Trinity can pull it off if they throw the ball and get male to respect the running game.

007- I didn't mean to imply that Male has an advantage. Kudos to T's punter-best in the state. I underestimated Male's kicking game before seeing them because of comments on here but came away impressed that they are solid in kicking and punting. Definite edge to T but not as much as what you think.

 

I think if T wins this, it is by ball control, spreading the formations, keeping Beaumont and co. on defense, Petrino scrambling and Phillips taking 5 yards at a time. Male has started fast in every big game this year. Containing that start means success. Instant classic waiting to happen.

BTW, In Ohio this weekend on Saturday, #1 vs #2 also. Colerain vs Cincy St X in the 3rd round.

Male does start strong and so does Trinity. The key will be who can get the ball first and do they score. The TV said tonight that Trinity is outscoring opponents 317-35 in the first half. That's absurd but I would assume Male is something close to that with all of the blowouts the 'Dawgs have.

 

Who gets the first score and maybe more important who gets the first stop? Or is there a first stop?

The funny thing is 90% of the time we get the ball first...I would like for us to win this toss.
