  1. Fern Creek will have, Hynes, Welch, McNeal & Smith all returning on offense. I dont know who else is back but those four can score a bunch of points!
  2. The entire "Top 10 Players" concept is a farse anyway. How do you put a linemen against a QB and rate them? Unless the poll is by position the only thing you can go on is how much interest they get from D1 schools, its not apples to apples when comparing kids because they play different positions. We could have the best punter in the country in KY but if all he does is punt I promise he would not make a "Top 10" list. Rating kids by position is the only ranking that really matters. EDITED FOR CONTENT
  3. I haven't been able to find one, my local Kroger store usually carries it but haven't seen it there yet and have been checking weekly.
  4. hehehehehehhehehe! Imagine me snickering like Marie Laveau (those of you who are old enough to know what I mean anyway)
  5. There will be some BIG surprises from Fern Creek this season. Rest assured I will be here to gloat when they occur!
  6. Each school can have, set by its school counsel, its OWN athletic eligbility policy which supercedes KHSAA bylaws, and for students outside its resides academic policy, entrance standards and performance standard requirement in order for them to remain enrolled. Manual is no exception and since every program there is pretty much optional they take a hard hit in that arena. Consistancy is what is lacking in the JeffCo Public Programs. What it takes for the larger publics to compete the #1, numero uno thing, A coach DEDICATED to STAYING and BUILDING a TOTAL program, an administration willing to let him do it and some small measure of community support. Redman has been at Male now 16yrs, Glaser has been at St X 26 yrs, Beatty has only been at Trinity what 8 yrs (but Lampley has been there through the coaching changes and things stay consistant) Nonetheless Beatty's tenure at Trinity is still longer than that of ANY public school coach in Jefferson County. Joe Nichols has been at Manual 7yrs and best of my recollection other than Redman he is the longest sitting coach in JeffCo. Surprise Surprise his program is getting better and better. Historically when teams make runs a coach either inherits a program from a coach that was there more than 5 yrs or has been there more than 5 himself.
  7. Never said FC was great in '06 just said they beat Meade Cty who made it to the Qtr Finals. . By your statement if Fern Creek had been in district 2 in '07 they would have likely lost to Male in the Quarter Finals same place Henry clay got knocked out. How does that prove HC is better? I don't understand your rationale on the NKY district(s). Henry Clay beat one team from District (6) BOONE COUNTY and one team from District (8)that is hardly "owning" any NKY district! I will give you of the teams in District 7 HC would probably be the ONLY team to give L'Ville 6A's a challenge, bottom line. This discussion was not about HC and FC it was about L'Ville 6A Publics vs Lex 6A Publics and I am sorry but you cannot convince me that year in and year out Lex schools could consistantly compete. Tates Creek, Dunbar and Lafayette certainly could not compete HC could compete but in no way would dominate
  8. So then you also know the reason the rest of the state chose not to participate in a playoff system? They couldn't compete with Louisville schools. Go look at the Lit Champions prior to '59 L'Ville schools 14 out of 22 years a L'Ville school was Lit Champion. Tilghman was the ONLY team in the state that ever consistantly competed on the level of the L'Ville schools they won 4 or 5 from the 30's til '59. The teams winning it were pretty much the same as today, except you would exchange Flaget for Trinity and Manual was maybe stronger.
  9. Fern Creek beat Meade County who was ranked in the top 10 at the time last season, They also beat them the prior year not sure if they were ranked or not at the time but Meade County was in the quarterfinals in both '06 and '07. And LOST their first game to Fern Creek BOTH years. So which is it, Meade County has an exceedingly EASY road to the quarterfinals and is way overrated all season or Fern Creek is a better team? You tell me! Furthermore if youre referring to Central as the 3A team. You are correct that they are a very good team, however they would have difficulty putting up points against a 6A defense. Their defense is as good as any in 6A but their offense would fall short.
  10. Actually meant any PUBLIC schools from Lexington, for the purposes of this thread I am excluding LexCath as a "Lexington School"
  11. One more thing how did you Henry Clay do in Lexington at the 7 on 7? Not a smart alleck comment I just don't know, I know they were there but hadn't heard. There were three L'Ville teams in the final 8 I know, Fern Creek, Male and Manual. I know Chester and Greenville both made it as well so that is 5. Were any Lexington schools in the other 3?
  12. Go back and read the entire thread please! Fern Creek was an example because its a school I know the most about. I said A JEFFERSON COUNTY SCHOOL and I still believe MOST 6A schools in Jefferson County would win those districts I mentioned, the majority of the time if they were in them. We are talking about Lexington Teams and the MAJORITY of the teams out in the state in 6A I never said their weren't ANY good 6A teams out in the state their are but over the long haul L'Ville teams would come out ahead against Lexington teams and they would do it the majority of the time. And what are you basing your Henry Clay being "on a different" Level on? Look at HC's schedule the last few years, do you honestly think the 6A schools in L'ville wouldn't do as well or BETTER than HC has done playing that schedule? Did anyone on their shedule have a winning record? Boone Cty maybe did and WC ,but pretty sure they aren't even 6A! Where is the indication Henry Clay is on a different level. I need someone to point that out for me. Seriously tell me what makes HC on a different level?
  13. To answer my own question. They would lose face losing to a L'Ville public school plain and simple. Lafayette and Dunbar both scheduled Trinity this year but won't schedule a public from L'Ville. I guess they are content to sit back and have their fans/followers speculate on how they would do against L'Ville publics based on the severity of their loss to Trinity, they certainly aren't "expected" to beat Trinity.
  14. The reason I ask about Lexington AD's is I know for a fact in late April there were at least 4 Jefferson County schools that didn't have 10 games on their schedule. No one out in the state outside their districts, and that includes Lexington, would schedule them. Fern Creek has a deal with Meade Co. but I think even with Meade FC only had 6 games on their schedule last time I checked KHSAA they still only had 6 games on there. Seneca, Eastern etc were all in the same boat. NO ONE wants to play the 6A teams in Louisville because in most cases they know they don't stand a chance. And no schools in lower classes in Louisville want to play them either. Fern Creek revitalized the rivalry with Moore last year, trying to get a non-district game they could count on, now I hear after that ONE game Moore backed out, citing the class difference, new coach etc. Bottom line they got SPANKED last year and don't want to play them again. Fern Creek played BOTH St X and Trinity every year, for many years, even though only Trinity was in their district . I look for them to pick up Trinity as a non-district game in the near future if they haven't already.
  15. Why do Lexington AD's not schedule Louisville schools in the regular season?
  16. Lets take Fern Creek as its the one I am most familiar with. They didn't play St X or Trinity last year, however they scrimmaged St X and St X won by 9. I still don't see how you get that a School like Fern Creek couldn't win the majority of the time against a team like HC. 2007 Dunbar lost to Trinity 41-7 Lafayette Lost to Trinity 56-6 Henry Clay lost to Trinity 50-14 Those scores show NO MEASURE if success. 2006 Last time Fern Creek Played Trinity Fern Creek Lost 51-23 (FC's starting QB was a freshman and he threw for 350+ yards that game) Same year Henry Clay lost to Trinity 56-35 one TD difference Lets go back to 2005 Playoffs Fern Creek lost to Trinity 38-13 Fern Creek also led 13-0 at the half, Trinity just had fresh legs and ran them to death Henry Clay lost to Trinity 41-20 and I am pretty sure HC never led in the game. You are obviously a biased Lexington Citizen. You cannot say based on historical game analysis that Lexington Schools performed ANY better than Fern Creek, who wasn't even the best public team in Louisville those years! Furthermore going back three years I cannot even recall St X playing a school from Lexington. What exactly are you basing your opinion on? In response to your "Challenge" occasionally comment FERN CREEK yes pidly little FERN CREEK beat St X 5 TIMES in the 90's! When was the last time a Lexington School beat St X?? A Public one that is! It has NEVER happened that I recall.
  17. Here is what I am saying. There are teams in Louisville, who year in and year out are better than teams anywhere else in the state BUT Louisville, and who could likely beat MOST of the top teams out in the state including Lexington teams , however they will never advance too far into the state tournament because of "The Holy Trinity" in Louisville, (Male, St X, Trinity). Move a 6A team like Fern Creek, Manual or Ballard to any of the 5 districts besides 3, 4 or 5 and they will make to at least the 3rd round of the playoffs 4 out of every 5 years before they get knocked off by one of the big THREE If one of those teams would be lucky enough end up in district 7 or 8 they would likely make the state semis 4 out of every 5 years if not more often. Okay, I don't agree with this point. Henry Clay, Dunbar, Tates Creek and Lafayette would do fine in a district with a Fern Creek or a Ballard IMO (Scott County would do fine as well, though not in Lexington). I think T, X, Male and Manual would win just about any district in the state at 6A, but the other Louisville schools would struggle to establish themselves in Lexington. I believe this would be the case in N. Kentucky as well, but Lexington is the thread topic. You undereastimate teams like Fern Creek, Manual and Ballard. I know at least one coach out in the state that agrees with me, Larry Mofield, hes made it to what the Quarter finals of the state the last two years but each year lost to the only Jefferson county schools he played in the regular season (Fern Creek/Manual) Schools out in the state have an easier road in the playoffs than Jefferson County schools do, that cannot be denied. Jefferson county schools meet X and T in the 1st or 2nd round state schools meet them in 3rd or 4th round take X and T away. Jefferson County will still dominate. Why do you guys think we went to 4 Classes to begin with?
  18. Then you missed the major point of my post. Go to KHSAA and look at the 3A state championship game every year from 1959 to 1974, for 15 straight years a Jefferson County School WON it ALL. If it was not Flaget, St X or Trinity it was a public Jefferson County School. Then we went away from 3 classes to 4 and then from Jeffco vs State, busing had started the public schools in Jefferson County took a major hit and the Catholic schools benefited. Several programs in Jefferson County are once again strong programs however Jefferson County is divided into 3 districts each one with St X, Trinity or Male in it. You could be he 2nd-4th best team in the state but if the #1-3rd team in the state is in your district tough your not going far in the playoffs. See what I am saying? Those programs like Ballard, Manual, Fern Creek don't get much of a chance to show what they could do against County Teams because they can't get past the big three. Take away X and T and teams like Manual, Ballard etc will roll. I saw Manual play last year and I saw HC play last year. Against one another Manual wins the match up 9 out of 10 times, they are better top to bottom. But because of the obstacles of X, T and sometimes Male how good JeffCo teams are stays a mystery. I am telling you some of them are very good and Jefferson County would remain dominatiing state titles even without X and T.
  19. No it would be more than 50% of the time, I was just basing that on the other persons post about Manual. Lex schools are not on par with Louisville, Catholic has a run now and then but all schools do! Heck Fern Creek beat St X a few times in the mid 90's. This is why I get so exceedingly upset with people who wanted the public/private split. There IS NOT a level playing field among public schools in any class in this state so what the heck is the difference if the privates play with us or not. If there is a split Male or another Louisville School would win 6A every year just like a Louisville school won 3A EVERY year back before we went to FOUR classes. The names may have changed but the problem is the same, schools out in the state cannot consistantly compete with Louisville schools, Eliminate St X and Trinity and that would still be true.
  20. Southern, Ballard, Eastern and Fern Creek could also probably beat them 50% of the time its apples to oranges
  21. I expected Hynes wouldn't be stellar. From everything I heard he was laid up quite a while and lost a bunch of weight. I also heard that he was playing WR at South Oldham on Tuesday. Maybe just doesnt have his strength back yet. FC should have a lot of speed on D but most of it inexperienced, don't understand positioning etc. Coach White will teach them or at the very least be entertaining for the rest of us to watch while he is trying.
  22. thsrocks, anyone, did Hynes play at Male? I didn't make it out, if so how did he look?
