  1. hmmmmmmmmm I seem to recall last year everyone predicting Meade Co. would win BIG! and what happened? They went home with a loss, to a team that had a freshman in his first ever start at QB. I hope they make sure they get the field NICE AND SOGGY to slow FC down otherwise it could be very bad for the GreenWave, the deep ball isn't going to be an option. FC is fast fast fast and has some leapers, athleticism is rampant top to bottom. They are far better coached and running a far better system this season than last. Talent wise they had a couple key kids they lost since last year, Lawton, Johnson, Britt but they have been replaced with speed, athleticism and BETTER fundamental players and they won't be plagued by the penalties they were last year, its a far more disciplined team. Higgins is one of the smarter coaches around, he hasn't showed his hand yet. I sit at these scrimmages and think "why aren't they doing what they do at practice".....Meade county will likely have a size and strength advantage but speed can run around size, Meade County will likely have a MORE experienced team on the field but I have to give the better coaching mind to Higgins. It will be an interesting game I think a close game it could go either way and I would be surprised if more than a TD seperated their scores.
  2. It was well over 110 degrees inside my truck a couple days ago according to the onboard thermometer its not any cooler on a buss and some kids are on a bus over an hour.
  3. Don't give them too much credit a stopped clock is right twice a day!
  4. He didnt have much time they were sending 7 or 8 fairly often, hard to throw with a linebacker breathing down your neck. FC needs to buck up their O line, teach their blockers sometimes they have to push off and release. X's LB's had nice open lanes to travel in. Hynes however CAN throw on the run which surprised me. FC's defense was impressive, you gotta love coach White and what he is doing if your a FC fan! X was giving up a lot across the middle but thats a gamble when you send that many and it seemed to be very effective and stopping FC's passing game. I liked that they played the scrimmage like a game and not just taking turns on downs. Stadium AWESOME!
  5. I don't know I tell you what I think Trinity played better against MBA, a game they lost, than they did any other game the rest of the season. I say they were the best team all the way around and they would have handed CovCath their behinds had they played...totally different class of football. I admire CovCath for playing those tough games like Elder, CinStX, Bsp Watterson etc all teams the LOST to. While they beat many they didn't blow out the better teams in their own class, Highlands gave them all they wanted and it was a GAME with LexCath in the playoffs
  6. wwwwooowww!!!!! is all I can say about the facilities! and Fern Creek looked a lot better than I expected especially on defense...
  7. If I think I can stand the heat I am going to try and make it out there...I have mixed feelings on Higgins making this his Tigers first 11 on 11 outing. They have a lot of talent, enough to make a fine football team, I am just not sure they believe they are good yet..
  8. They have to win with a running game this year though, been a while since they have been in that spot...Beatty prefers to pass thats why they went after the kid that is FC so hard..
  9. Yes that was against "DA BEARS" in 1964 I believe...Time Magazine had an article on Hornung back in '61 titled "The Indispensable Man" its online somewhere I am sure, its about Hornung being called to active duty that is where those quotes you mentioned came from, the writer compared him to Unitas and Brown and said "Hornung does NOTHING perfect, but does EVERYTHING well: the only thing he does BETTER THAN ANYONE else in the NFL is score points!." I thought that was a very accurate description of him and how he played in the NFL, I still have a copy of that magazine to this day.
  10. As much as I never liked Hornung back in the day (he got all the girls!) I have to give Best High School football player honors to him hands down. Most people don't realize he not only played QB at Flaget he also punted, kicked field goals, pats and even played some on defense, if it was a close game. In College at Notre Dame he played QB, HB, DE, punted, kicked off, kicked FGs, kicked PATs and was on the kick off return team. In fact in his final College game against USC he ran back a kick of 95 yards playing with TWO broken thumbs. He won the Heisman in 1956 (how many others from KY have won the Heisman?) His ability to "do it all" continued into the NFL...Most people don't realize he held the NFL record for the most points scored by an individual player in a single season for 46yrs until LaDaian Tomlinson broke it last year. Just an FYI the Packers only played 12 games in 1960 when it set the record and he played RB. 176pts Paul Hornung, Green Bay, 1960 (15-td, 41-pat, 15-fg) I might even venture to say he played on the best NFL team that ever existed the 1961 Packers team. He was like a greek god among men when he was in High School, he in his high School prime against any of the others mentioned in theirs, its no contest. Between Brohm and Hornung, Hornung wins because of toughness alone. He took lickings and kept on ticking. NFL Player of the year twice in '60 and '61 thats an honor Brohm won't see twice. He will be a great one but he is not Paul Hornung, although Hornung himself has said Brohm is the closest to date. As much as he got bad press for the booze the women etc there were things he did the press ignored that truly told you what kind of guy he was.He sold his Heisman Trophy for a quarter of a million dollars in order to endow scholarships for Notre Dame students. He urged the board of regents to loosen academic standards so more African American athletes could be accepted into Notre Dame, he warned them their football program would suffer if they continued with academic practices designed to exlude them.
  11. Any QB that doesn't have size definately has to have speed! at least to get to the next level at all
  12. AMEN! Unfortunately most of the Optimist teams in Louisville don't enter High School "intact" or their would be some schools having very nice teams...Hikes Point and Highview in particular have had some tremendous Senior teams. But they scatter for 9th grade because of the talent. Some go to Male, some Trinity, some St X...in the case of Highview NONE EVER go to Moore because they have tasted constant winning and don't want to give it up...
  13. Well unfortunately the culture of that team has not been conducive to anyones maturity level increasing for a couple years now, that is why I was hoping this kid landed at Trinity. Now though hopefully Higgins changes that, he will certainly have some "undoing" to accomplish. When this kid was a senior in the optimist league there was no better leader than he was. I might be biased because one of his coaches there is a good friend of mine, but they gave him the responsibility of leading his team, they didn't just tell him it was his job, go do it, they explained what was expected and he delivered. The FC staff didn't do that last year and that put the kid in a spot, not many juniors and seniors on that team liked the idea of answering to their 14yr old quarterback when he tried to be a leader. Unfortunately from what I hear he sort of took the "if you can't beat them, join them" route....
  14. Next time you might want to read the post before you respond, I didn't say he was in the top 10 as a sophmore, I said he finished his freshman year ranked in the top 10 in yards per game, that is a fact not speculation, if Coach Higgins isn't saying he has a great QB he is either the only coach in Jefferson County saying he doesn't or he doesn't know how to judge talent. I have a difficult time believing either. Check out the link he finished LAST SEASON ranked 7th in Yards per game! I knew it had to be in the top 10 just not sure where.. also noticed he had 120 completions as a Freshman, how many other freshman have EVER done that? I have seen this kid play since he was 9 or 10 years old, if he isn't one of the best in the state this season he has either stopped trying or the new coaching isn't up to snuff.... http://www.khsaa.org/football/2006/stats4.htm
  15. He finished up last year as a freshman with 9 starts and 1800+ yards, I saw him up close down at WKU 2wks ago for the first time this season and he has gotten a lot bigger and stronger since last season. As has the Harness kid at Manual
  16. Bryan Hynes at Fern Creek will be one of the better QB's in the state. He is just a sophmore but started 9 games varsity last year as a freshman and ended up with 198 yard per game average, which I pretty sure put him in the top 10 in 4A statewide. Hes 6'4 and has the best "touch" I have seen in a long, long time, and his arm is a cannon.
  17. Fern Creek is OPEN on 9/28 and has Bullitt Central @ Bullitt Central on October 5th
  18. Any idea what his name is? Everytime I glanced at their game (no idea what their record was) I saw him "mossing" someone!
  19. WHiting played football in the optimist league for Fern Creek on the same team with Jacob Jenkins and both went to Manual in the same class, (he also wrestled for FC Optimist 134lb class just 3yrs ago!) I guess Jenkins gave up football in high school to concentrate on basketball, haven't seen his name anywhere but as an 8th grade kid Jenkins was a man among men on the football field. Jordan, has come a long long long way already, and is better every time I see him play. I credit that to the coaching at Trinity because he had the building blocks but didn't know how to put them together on his own.
  20. I talked with couple of Fern Creek players who were in BP last night when I stopped for gas. They said they lost their final game to the team from Franklin, TN. Apparently FC started out the day rough, stranded at a rest stop for part of the morning after their bus broke down.
  21. Even if he signed a contract by law he has three days to recant...
  22. hmmmmm I guess my grammer school rule failed me! I thought it was "I" before "E" except after "C" or if it sounds like "A" as in neighbor and weigh. I thought it looked wrong but said it to myself twice and went with "ie" ! That particular kid grew up playing for a good buddy of mine. If he keeps his head on and doesn't get hurt he will be a great one. Threw a 75 yarder against Meade County his first varsity start and ran off the field like it was no big deal. When I was 14 I would have messed my pants if they told me I was starting at QB and in that situation.
  23. Curious as to how the L'Ville teams faired, I know there were a lot there from out of state.
  24. I posted something about this last week as most teams only show six games on their schedule, I think thread was eaten though...Because I never saw any replies. On Fern Creek I know that they have Doss on August 31st @ home Bullitt Central on September 28th (not sure where though) October 5th is Open Ryle on October 12th @ home (their homecoming) Someone might want to confirm the open date as it might be 9/28 and Bullitt Central might be 10/05 I am going from memory here and it was told to me on the phone by my nephew I never saw it. The Doss and Ryle dates I am positive 100% are correct
  25. The Hynes kid at Fern Creek I was speaking of had 1800 yards and 15 TD's as a freshman by your standards he must be a diety
