  1. Fern Creek will be attending the 7 on 7 at UK. Higgins is wasting no time in his attempt to build a major program at Fern Creek. They were in the U of L tourney, The Male tourney both days and are at WKU this weekend. I would venture to guess that is not what the kids in that program are used to in the summer. I don't recall ever seeing them in any 7 on 7 other than U of L in the past.
  2. I know they made it to the semifinals when the beat Fern Creek...but thats all I know...
  3. On Friday night they beat Male and lost to Manual not sure about their first game I got there late. On Saturday they won their pool beating Seneca and Butler then lost on a controversal call to Breathitt County. Hynes threw a TD pass and the whistle blew while it was in the air the official said Hynes took longer than 4sec to throw his whistle was just late so the TD was waived off. Game time was up after Hynes last pass so they didnt get another chance to score I think they lost that one by 3...
  4. Higgins main reason for taking the Fern Creek job was to get back to where his family is in Louisville, no chance he would go to Henderson....I heard Bauer is in the mix but cannot imagine its true, although he did just resign from Waggener a job he just took a couple of months ago. Lawson replaced him at BC he isn't going back there.
  5. First of all, Ballard's student body certainly is not limited to its resides area. I know of several kids in Fern Creek, St Matthews even Hikes Point that attend Ballard AND PARTICPATE in Athletics Secondly, in reference to Roberts is there something that keeps an administrator from becoming involved with a program? I can honestly say he is a better coach than the last few Fern Creek has had, with the exception of the newly hired coach. Also Ballard is rancid with athleticism coaches are what makes the difference and whether or not they have winning progams or not, the talent is there to be a contender for state titles in almost every sport. I like Mark but I am not so sure he is the guy to take it to the next level there. Just to be fair let me say there is at least one other coach at Ballard who has a history of winning and taking teams to state that I DON'T like but I would like to see stay put because he is a great coach!
  6. Mr Ferguson at Eastern fine dual threat QB Mr Hynes at Fern Creek lets not forget the 1800 yards he had as a freshman. Saturday he started off slow but got better every game, FC learning a new system and only a few days of practice, by game three he was on the money and showing the touch. I was MOST impressed however by Mr Harness at Manual his game has grown by leaps and bounds since last year.
  7. This all plays into what I was saying a few months ago about Fern Creek hoping to become the last "true" traditional. If that happens and the neighborhood school is reinstituted, which many educators think WILL happen, Fern Creek keeps ALL THE KIDS in its resides area, except those that choose private school, which are plenty! As I understand it under the plan Male, Butler and Manual will have to have a resides area for their programs. Currently they have none. FC as a TRUE traditional would also have a resides area, likely 40291 and would no longer lose kids to Male or Butler and all would also take NON Traditional students based on resides area. Not certain how Manual would be handled because its a different program. Interesting footnote, currently South 1st Street in Louisville is in Jeffersontowns "Resides" area. That is a shady set up. My wife and I looked at a Victorian thinking about turning it into a Bed and Breakfast and checked on the schools for the kids, I assumed they would go to Manual, no dice J-Town is the home school. If you live two Blocks over its Iroquois.
  8. Check KHSAA individual records 20 should be good enough to be listed. I do remember an outstanding kid at Lewis Co in the 80's named Greer or maybe spelled Greir. Bradley or Brandon was the first name.
  9. I think there will be some definate surprises in 6A especially in the Louisville districts. Trinity and St X will be 1 and 2 however Male isn't going to be as good as you guys are giving them credit for, I watched Fern Creek blast them off the field in a JV game like they weren't even present last year. There were 60+ kids dressed on the sideline, none of them freshman I was told by a Male administrator, I dont buy for a minute Bobby Redman doesn't care about how his JV squad plays. They were worse than terrible, even if they were all sophmores he has no where near the talent in the pipeline he usually does. FC on the other hand is senior heavy will have a new system and staff in place and has what should be Trinity's starting QB. I look for them to surprise a lot of people and don't forget about Southern, Seneca (Knott will be a standout) and Ballard (Sir Weakly, TJ Pryor) all had a lot of young talent that will be coming back more experienced this season.
  10. Now that Higgins is official and we know Farmer is leaving for Doss. What do you guys think the season looks like? I can't help but thinking "if FC could only come up with 2-3 lineman" I think that is all they need to run their new district even with the loss of Lawton.....
  11. Did anyone ever hear anything on this??? I still can't seem to nail anyone down that knows for certain.
  12. This is unconfirmed mind you but I was told that it was announced at FC's Alumni gathering for Higgins last night that Lakunta Farmer will be leaving FC to take the head spot at Doss......
  13. I heard last nights introduction to the Alumni at FC went well for Higgins and he has set the bar high for what he wants to do with the program. There is a lot of buzz and excitement surrounding what he plans to do. More and more I think this may have been a very wise move by the Creek!
  14. Football fullfills a need instilled in man since the beginning of time. The need to compete, to prove you are faster, stronger and better than "other men". In the "hunter gatherer" days the women flocked to the strongest men because they increased their changes of survival and could provide protection and sustinance better for their offspring. When we became a "civilized" society and every day was no longer survival of the fittest men only had wars to fill that need, then man discovered sport and fullfilled his need. Lombardi said it best "I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, his greatest fulfillment of all he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious."
  15. I think 2,000 is a fair estimate, he has a great moves and doesn't slow down when he uses them. I think his talent coupled with the limited long pass game will account for him having HUGE numbers this season......
  16. That is the great thing about Trinitys program you don't have to be outstanding in every spot. Stein is fundamentally solid however I have seen him get shook. He doesn't have the big arm, finesse and supurb touch but he will get the job done because he is surrounded by a great team, he won't likely be a Mr Football candidate or an All-American though.
  17. hmmmmmmmm Trinity will have a fine program as always however unless they found another QB to fill the spot they were expecting to have the Hynes kid for look for them to have to run A LOT MORE this season.I didn't see anyone at the JV or Freshman level that had very impressive passing ability this past season, but hey it IS TRINITY maybe they have him strapped to a table in a science lab somewhere! People like to accuse them of cheating in every way possible why not Genetic Engineering!
  18. I had heard when Bronger's demise was first announced he was considering it but I asked him a couple weeks ago at a ball game and he said he was staying are you 100% sure on that? Tyheem is a great athlete no doubt but not near the death of the program or anything if he is gone. He lead the team in scoring with only 42 pts, nothing sensational by anyone's standards. He actually had a lot of missed catches that should have been scores last season. FC also has some younger kids that I think will step up and surprise some this season. #20 (I think) Jimmy Welch being one of them, hes been working hard this winter.
  19. TigerTalker this kids family are Trinity supporters, his father is an alum, and he took the entrance exam and was originally enrolled at Trinity for this school year THEN he changed his mind. His parents likely paid money they didn't get back, its not FREE to enroll and yes his family would have paid tuition just like everyone else. I am not one of those public supporters that spreads rumors and lies about Catholic schools cheating and giving full rides etc. I have too many friends involved in their programs and I KNOW first hand it doesn't happen and quite honestly I find it offensive when anyone alludes that it does. I am not saying it doesn't happen anywhere, maybe the smaller privates out in the state, but it doesn't happen at St X and Trinity. They have aide ANY STUDENT can apply for based on need, football players and other athletes are given nothing special in that regard. A large percentage of the students at both schools receive some form of need based aide regardless of whether or not they are athletes.
  20. Turn around so the congregation can hear you the choir already knows that tune! I am a FC fan but it doesn't take much to figure out Trinity would be the golden highway for him. Don't get me wrong we are tickled as can be to have him! but you talk about fitting into a system!
  21. The first obstacle he has to overcome is winning the kids over. You won't find many men who are a better person than Bob Bronger to say the players loved him would be an understatment. The second obstacle will be in the Athletic administration, he needs to be free to take charge of his ENTIRE program, boosters, parental support etc. There are some egos over there that don't want anyone doing anything unless they are ultimately in charge of it. Third his team has no size, he has only one lineman returning over 250lbs and he is not a player that has gone both ways (although he should). He needs to get a handle on Hynes, he is not a bad kid don't get me wrong, lets just say he would have faired better in the "enviroment" at Trinity and he needs a coach that is going to instill that kind of focus in him at FC too much else goes on at FC. There is not a deep team spirit and commradary amongest players and I think certain kids, Hynes in particular who have come up in that enviroment suffer a little culture shock and lose focus, when that attitude is not demanded. Fourth I think he needs to make Lawton his primary RB, which he will most likely feel some resistance to, he has all it takes to be a great RB, speed, agility, athleticism. He is a fair receiver but I think his talents could be far better exploted at RB. Fifth facilities and equipment are fair but not what he is used to at a rural school where everyone in town comes to the football games.
  22. From what I hear its up in the air, Higgins will not report as coach until June and its still uncertain if the leading assistant from last year is going to remain or move to another program. After the change in coaching was made they even quit working in the weight room for the same reasons basically no one to be in charge of it.
  23. I think you'll see that change rather quickly. In case you hadn't noticed the Fern Creek community is the fastest growing area of the county these days the problem is the people living ther send their kids to Catholic School! or Male, Manual or Ballard ,several members of Ballard's softball team live in Glenmary. That being said the school is busting at the seems enrollment wise. The enrollment is now greater than at any other time post-busing. Don't get me wrong he will have to rally for community and parental support but if he is at all successful it will come easily. FC has the things in motion to get where it needs to be to become the next "True Traditional High School" it is a 10-15yr plan we are in year 9 or so of. The Alumni association has given the school over 1/2 a mil in the last few years and continues to grow. They financed a major overhaul in the facilities you will see take place over the summer on the baseball and softball fields. FC also has a lot of firsts where its standing out from other High Schools and has received a lot of National Recognition mainly in academics. Part of the plan is to get ALL AREAS up to speed but academics was obviously the first measure of business, it is a school afterall. Two things can launch Fern Creek having a resides area that includes ONLY Fern Creek which I don't see happening although Ballard has it that way and still somehow gathers athletes countywide or becoming at "True Traditional" with a feeder system. The pre-busing alumni are going to make sure one of the two happens. $$$$$ Talks and the school will be "returned to the community" as they put it in one form or another. It would surprise you I think to know who some of the Alumni involved in this movement are . FC is the oldest HS in the county the list of Alums is long and prestigious.
  24. "Junkyard Defense" will be far better to him with his new personel they are more athletic and will be easier acalmated to that style of play. 60 Invert I wanna see it!
