Bartender, I'll have what he's having.

Beaumont has it locked in my opinion...I think this game will go down to the wire.

You know who I am most scared of in this game....Josh Williams.

With good reason, anyone who tries to focus on Beaumont quickly find out.

Last year, when we played Henry Clay, we had Senn to shadow the stud WR...that was awesome for us..I don't see us having that same type of DB yet.

I don't know yet I will post my predictions later this week, but it will be close

Trinity's defensive personnel is as good as it has had for a long time. Big, physical and speed at LB and DE. However, the schemes they run are cause for concern. A much more talented and better coached Male team will look to take advantage of the gaping holes in Trinity's pass defense.

Trinity will have to control the ball on offense and spread the ball around the field, maybe even go to the TE. Male will bring its superior line speed on defense to pressure Petrino and flush him out of the pocket or force Trinity into short passes, screens and draws. Petrino can play that game very well too. Also, Trinity is faster than St. X on both sides of the ball.

I don't beleive either of these teams has faced a team like the one it will face this Friday. Both teams are in uncharted waters as far as their opponent's talent, speed and execution is concerned. It will be a great football game for the fans. It will be played at a very high level with little to no mistakes. Each team will give the other its best shot without any excuses.

I look for this game to go into two overtimes. Male has the home field advantage but Trinity has the big game advantage as the defending state champion. The kicking game will be the deciding factor and I beleive it will go to Trinity. Trinity by one point in the greatest KY high school game ever played round two.

Here is my prediction from August. I still stand by it.

Male lost last year 35-31 on a controversial pass interference call late in the game. X returns 2 starters from that team. Male returns 16 starters and adds Justin Green. Yes, I can see Male advancing not only from Saint X but into the fourth round and beyond. They possess shut down corners and only one receiver from X and Trinity have caught more than 10 passes on the varsity level. Admit that Male has better athletes and usually better talent wins. Male by 10

The game will depend on how Trinity will pass protect, Male sends many. Male will score 24+ but how will they defend?

Now for the analysis

Kickoff- T will kick into the end zone everytime. Male starts at 20. Male will kick into the corner away from Flynn high and deep and through the first 12 games they have covered kickoffs inside the 20. X started inside or at the 20 7 times after the kickoffs in two games. Male will squibb kick it to the middle to change of pace. Both times it bounced into the end zone. X replaced Montano with Vic to try to get better returns in the second game and he didn't get a return as I remember. Question- how good is the 2nd deep receiver for Trinity?

Punts- Male punter has a strong leg and will hit deep high punts. He doesn't get much practice or neither does Trinity's punter. Male will come after slow punters once a game but typically set up Beaumont to return. He has returned quite a few for TD's this year. When Male punts the ball, they did cover well. Hang time helps in coverage.

field Goals- advantage Trinity. If game comes down to long field goal at end of game, advantage T. But Male's kicker made the xp in OT against X on a swamp and showed in practice that he has a strong leg. X did block an extra point from around the outside left. I do like that Male has the snapper, holder and kicker practicing before the game and at halftime together to keep that rymthm and timing together.

Male offense- Running-Counter trap is deadly. Expect T's defensive ends to take on pulling tackles and guards all night. Deeds has to play well to shed bigger blocker and tackle ball carrier. DB behind DE has to make tackle or Beaumont is gone for 6. Male countered Hobbs ( #11 ) away from Beaumont to stop both LB's to flow to attack and was very successful. Male offensive line is best in state. Also need to tackle Gainey. T cannot be content to contain Gainey because he is very elusive.

Male offense Passing- Josh Williams has been described as the fastest kid on Male's team and Male does a great job in getting him the ball. Because of his speed, you have to give cushion but he took a quick stay pass and went 87 yards against X. Watch for WR screens underneath. Gainey creates time by avoiding rush so Male WR's come back and make catches. It is a practiced play. Most pass plays seem to be outside. Beaumont is a threat across the middle on a drag. Gainey has a pretty good arm, not as good as Anderson ( Male's QB last year) IMHO, but he adds the running dimension.

Trinity- running This is the area that T MUST win to win the game. Whether it is Phillips or Petrino scrambling, it must be achieved to win over Male. Male DE's crash hard and make plays in backfield on plays away from them. WR's blocking can spring long run. Best play for X was QB counter draw because Male's defensive end crashed on fake and Zoeller went to vacated area. Petrino can execute this well. Male LB's fill well and give big hits. Good play is quick trap straight up middle to FB when safety isn't there.

Trinity passing- Petrino has been red hot-16 of 17 last week. Flynn and Dutton great speed. But the receiver that must have a good game will be Nick Melillo. He will be the one to be the target and be tall enough to catch over the defender on the go patterns. Zoeller suffered from too many drops and slightly underthrown balls. It is tough to know where the receiver will be because of the contact coming off the ball. Case in point.Robbie Ash TE for X got chucked at the line of scrimmage by the DE and then hit by a LB and then he came open in the end zone on the interception. Zoeller tried to loft it over the LB and the LB jumped up and got the ball. Trinity receivers must get a good release to get into patterns and keep their hands on the Male defenders to keep their separation. Size will hurt Flynn but competiveness will help. The inside slot receiver will have the best chance to beat number 46 on Male on a deep pattern. I believe he is the LB. That is where X went and unfortuneately missed on some drops and late tip aways.

Later Beaumont switched to saftety to defend the deep middle pass. He made Hottell pay on one pass play. ( Answer the phone, will ya!)

X tried the pick play WR screen to Simmons twice and Will got tackled on the first play when he came underneath by the inside defender. The second time X ran it, Deuce blew up the defender but Simmons had to come so far back around that it went for a short gain. Look for a lot of crossing patterns out of T.

My last thoughts on the passing game is when teams spread out with four wides, it becomes a 5 offensive linemen and one back vs 4 defensive linemen and 2 LB reading then rushing. What that causes is the RB must know the blocking calls. Male will stunt and cause the RB to step into the middle to stop the LB blitzer. 2 questions come up - 1)how good of a blocker is Phillips

and 2) does T counter with sending Phillips out and risking a 5 vs 6?

Sending him to the swing pass area immediately can be effective.

My prediction- It is not Marshall stadium, it is not Papa Johns, none of the current Rocks have ever ( this assumption is based that Male and T don't play at the freshmen or JV level and Male and T haven't played at the varsity level for awhile) played in Maxwell stadium. This is not a state final environment where open spaces abound. This is not a T-X tailgate. Maxwell Stadium will be rowdy and crowded with non-Trinity supporters. I was really impressed with Male's cheering section and crowd. I believe a feeling of uncomfortableness will allow Male to jump ahead early and hold on by 10 late.

I don't think anyone in the state can stop Male

Male-28

Trinity-17

I don't either. this is Male's year, they have unbelieveable team speed.

I seriously doubt that we get held to 17 points against that defense...whoever wins I think the scores will be in the high 30's or 40's.

I will say with Coach Bean on our defensive sideline, I like that he is VERY familiar with this Male offense...and obviously Coach Cove and Beatty know about the defense...they will have to do their best to simulate that speed in practice....get ready for a lot of shifts, and bunches...it's hard to play man, when the receivers start out all together.

This will be an enormous game for Nick Petrino....he has to be as cerebral as he as ever bee, receivers will be open, sometimes only for a bit, others they will open late.

Trinity will have to play its best game of the year to win. Probably, the same can be said for Male. Which team can summon this type of performance? If they both do, the fans will be in for a treat. I believe Male has more margin for error than Trinity . On the other hand, I am pretty sure T will be prepared and ready for a great effort. It'll be harder for Trinity to win, but that is a challenge that T accepts quite well when it counts. I need to ruminate a bit more before my prediction is forthcoming.

I'll take Male in this one. Should be a great game! I just think Male is the best team in the state this year.

I personally hope that Male can pull this one out. Im just tired of the title flipping back and forth between St. X and Trinity. Other than that, I have no basis on this game to make a prediction.
