Without a doubt no matter what the outcome this will be the best game of the year in 4A..... Male needs to get it done this year too, regardless of what their supporters say, they are in store for a couple of lean years. Their 6A district draw does help them out NEXT year though as far as making the playoffs however Southern and Fern Creek both look to return a lot of their starters from this season and by the 08-09 season should be powerhouses both schools have growing enrollments and I look for both programs to improve dramatically sadly the thing I think hurting both those programs is coaching. The young talent is there.

Good post...I think that this season is as important for Male as our 2001 title game was against them.

Punts- Male punter has a strong leg and will hit deep high punts. He doesn't get much practice or neither does Trinity's punter. Male will come after slow punters once a game but typically set up Beaumont to return. He has returned quite a few for TD's this year. When Male punts the ball, they did cover well. Hang time helps in coverage.

 

 

First off, great analysis.

However Trinity's punter was the first team all state punter last year (bluegrassprep & AP) He has commited to UK and is averaging more than 48 yards per and tons of height. advantage T.

 

Other than that good analysis. I think Male has faster players, not that T running back is slow, he is fast also. However I just think speed goes to Male.

 

I think Trinity can pull it off if they throw the ball and get male to respect the running game.

My Keys to the game:

 

Offense: I think in order for Trinity to be successful, they MUST give Petrino time to throw, if not Male will win. Trinity will have to get male to respect the running game in order to open up the throwing game. And get Male to respect the passing game to open up the running game. T running back could break 1 if he can get past the linebackers. Again Male has the speed and T must have quick short passing routes.

 

Male is Male and always has great speed. Beaumont is I think Mr. Kentucky. I think Trinity can only contain the outside or inside. But I don't think they can contain inside and out with Beaumont. He will get a lot of yards, it's just will he get help in the passing game or not. But I think Male has so much speed that it will be hard for Trinity to keep up with them, so I think Trinity has to contain the outside and not let Male in the open field.

 

ADVANTAGE EVEN

 

DEFENSE:

Trinity must contain the outside and not let Male to the open field. Get some pressure on the QB and try to hurry him up and make him get the ball off with pressure and get him to make some bad decisions. Must not allow Male get many yards after the catch.

 

Male has to play great in on the line, I think they must get pressure to Petrino, if he has time to throw the ball, I think the route running will be there and the ball will be there if given enough time to throw. Male must shut the running game down so Trinity will have to throw to move down the field. If they do that they can cover the wide outs better. Again Male is very fast and it will be tough to throw deep on them because of that. They are very fast.

 

ADVANTAGE MALE

 

SPECIAL TEAMS: Male has speed and more speed, Trinity will have to stay in lanes and cover the kicks, if not Male has the speed to break it. Male must set up the return and be consistent on kicking. Trinity has the best punter in the state if not the country and he can place kick with the best, very good hangtime on punts and kicks. If it is a field position game, Trinity will have the advantage if they can cover the kicks.

 

ADVANTAGE TRINITY

 

COACHES: Both Head coaches are GREAT, Beatty has been the better as of late. Although I think one has to look at the assistant coaches and I think Trinity has the advantage there.

It looks like it will be a long night for the poor Rocks Friday. The newest Lit rankings have the Rocks as a 14 point underdog. I hope they manage to at least make a game of it.

If any team can beat these Dogs it is T because of their style of play. The problem is that Male is so fast they can cover mistakes and make plays when nothing is there all night long. T will have to use every trick in the book and probably will but I don't think it will be enough.

In the Lit ratings, T would be an 18-point dog if you give H 4 additional points for home field advantage.

This quote reminds me of the 2000 game, as we had open guys, but by the time the ball got there, etc...they had covered up those openings.

If Male played a different Defense...I think they would be a 3 td favorite in this game.....but they don't and I think that could do them in. Trinity's offense is not going to be stopped by man coverage.

 

Trinity should run a no-huddle offense to hurry the fatigue. If you look at both X games...Male was dominate in the 1st half but only scored 1 TD in the 2nd half in both games combined.(and 1 in OT) They looked tired in both. The no-huddle would hurry that process along.

 

I think T will win it in the 2nd half.....unless Male just Rocks the 1st half by more points than T can recover.

I almost hope that we run a form of man on the Williams and Co. in that these plays do not effect man coverage.
