I'm trying to read all these posts and I can't. OSU tonight was the team most of us were waiting to see. The problem is Oklahoma plays Texas and OSU plays Northwestern. There is no way OSU can jump Oklahoma if they both win. I think Bama is the best team, but if Georgia beats them they should be out.

I agree. Same as last year. However, I think Georgia will put up a good fight and will be the toughest opponent Alabama has seen this year but the Tide will prevail by 10-14.

Except Oklahoma is ranked several spots ahead of Ohio State. Ohio State's (potential) wins over Michigan and Northwestern should not be enough to vault them over Oklahoma and their (potential) wins over WVU and Texas. The Michigan win is better than the West Virginia win but the Texas win would be better than the Northwestern win. There's not enough difference in the wins to jump that many spots.

I’m not saying Ohio State will jump Oklahoma. I’m simply saying they are basically the same team. 1 and 2 in offensive efficiency and both have bad defenses.

39 is probably more than average for Michigan this year. Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan State held them to less. We know Notre Dame obviously held them to less.

 

I get the knock on the Oklahoma defense. But doesn't that same - or at least similar - knock apply to OSU?

 

If OU beats Texas its clear what the decision should be. An avenged loss to a well-ranked opponent should trump a bad loss to an un-ranked opponent.

The first thing that Buckeye or Sooner fans have to hope for is Alabama and Clemson to both win their conference championship games. I believe with both still unbeaten, should they lose then they still could get in with the one loss. Bama and Clemson both have been / are head and shoulders above any others and it's not even close and have been all season. So, imo it's very possible either could lose one and still go.

538 Projections have Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma and Ohio State getting in if they all win and Notre Dame just missing the cut.

 

Looking at it from a head to head matchup, I would pick both Oklahoma and Ohio State to beat Notre Dame if they were to play them.

Also I would have been interested to see who you thought would win a week ago. After Notre Dame beat down a Syracuse team who people thought would beat Notre Dame. While OSU was a bad pass away in OT from losing again to a bad team.

I don't think they'll miss them either, that was the 538 site projections...not mine.

 

Ohio State has a much higher ceiling than Notre Dame does averaging 100 more yards a game and scoring 14 more offensive TDs this season. Notre Dame Defense statisically looks to be much better, but how'd that work out for Michigan?

As far as last week, even nearly losing I thought OSU was the most dangerous team in the country.

I think Oklahoma would have a better resume but I think OSU is a better team. I won’t be upset either way.

 

Same here. Oklahoma is the most overrated team still in the hunt, now that Michigan is out. But I do think they have the better resume when compared to Ohio State.

If Stoops were still coaching, I would lay my life savings on OU going belly up this weekend against Texas. They still may, but under new management they do not seem to fold as easily.

Maybe their ceiling is higher because of the teams they play? The Big Ten is a mess.
