Why is A.J. Mayer going to Miami of Ohio?

Featured Replies

To me, AJ looks way beyond Miami of Ohio. Additionally, I turned Miami on last week during one of those weekly MAC games on TV and I am not sure anyone was in the stands.

I know there are many great things about Miami but Mayer's skill set looks beyond the Redhawks.

What am I missing?

AJ Mayer has announced his graduate transfer to play at Arkansas State.

  • Sun Belt Football is very good. Before Blake Anderson left Arkansas State for Utah State the Red Wolves were very good. With Marshall, Old Dominion, James Madison, and Southern Miss joining this year

Arkansas State honestly had a pretty dismal season in 2021. 1-7 in the Sunbelt Conference and 2-10 overall. Not a whole lot better the year before. My assumption is that this is a move for more playin

From afar, I've wondered this myself. Seems like a case where a player commits early and then for myriad reasons, soars above expectations, grows and becomes a bigger star than anticipated.

For him to be doing what he's doing, with his size and physical skills, you have to think some larger type schools are doing flybys so to speak. All of this, of course, becomes even more of a question after they win this weekend.

What a player...wow.

I know of a current Steelers QB that went to Miami (OH), and it didn't seem to hinder his career much. :sssh:

If he's majoring in business or accounting it would make sense.

I think it's a great fit. He will get a chance to play early. It's a short ride for his family to watch and it's a good education.

Where do you propose that he go? I would be interested in hearing exactly how "committed" he is to Miami.

Great academic institution, close to home/family and opportunity to play early. Makes sense to me. That said, he has not signed a LOI yet, so, let's see.

I can think of a whole bunch of places.

I would like to know how committed he is too.

The same question for Butler. The most underrated player in a long time up here.

I know he was pretty high on UC's board, but when they missed on Chase Wolf it opened up Ben Bryant to become their top target. If they didn't land Bryant I think Mayer would have very much been in play. I think a lot of middle of the pack P5 or higher level AAC teams would be lucky to have him. Big time talent...

Both Mayer and Butler are way beyond Miami. I still say Butler doesn’t head to Oxford come 12/20.

I will just go ahead and ask. Is he a UK fan?

God I hope not.

I thought we were talking about big time programs that Mayer could play for.

He's Big Ten caliber - have to think that Northwestern, Purdue, Minny give him a look. Louisville could come calling as well.

Should start hearing come Monday...
