It’s hard for me to crack jokes about this kid’s mistakes just because his dad is a jerk. It’s got to be tough being that guy’s kid.

 

How old is he? He is no longer a kid according to some laws. As a star athlete, this kid already has pressure on him and is in the news more that the average college player and his clown dad just magnifies the issue. Someone needs to teach him, that his life is under a micro scope and everything he does will be measured. Thanks to pops, you have barely seen the other kids names mentioned.

Our justice system can be whack, but it is probably the best thing going in the world. Dumb decision or not, that is a scary predicament to me in, especially at that age. I hope they are able to get out of there as fast as possible.

LaVar Ball canceled his press conference in China

 

Yesterday, LiAngelo Ball and two of his UCLA teammates were arrested for shoplifting in China, and after initially planning a press conference for this morning, LaVar Ball has been told to keep his mouth shut, an epic feat for the outspoken father. A few hours ago, Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hill were released on bail, and will stay at a hotel until the legal process is over. Chinese lawyers told Yahoo’s Dan Wetzel that could take over a month, and if convicted, the trio could be sentenced to three to ten YEARS in prison. Wow. Yeah…best to stay quiet, LaVar.

Here’s what happens when a U.S. citizen is arrested in China:

 

Anyone who breaks the law in China is subject to prosecution under the Chinese legal system. If a person is convicted and sentenced to imprisonment by a Chinese court, this sentence will be served in a Chinese prison.

 

While in China one is subject to the same laws as is a Chinese citizen. A U.S. passport does not entitle its bearer to any special privileges. One should not expect to receive preferential treatment or to expect that the same array of legal rights accorded one under the U.S. judicial system are necessarily applicable in China.

 

Maybe don’t steal in China, especially when you’re a big baller.

One source told ESPN that nearly 20 police officers came into the Hyatt Hangzhou around 8 a.m. local time Tuesday and spoke to several Georgia Tech and UCLA players. The players, according to the source, were kept in a room for hours and not allowed to speak to any coaches.

 

“They weren’t messing around,” the source told ESPN. “The kids were scared.”

 

The Georgia Tech players were allowed to leave the room hours later, and the UCLA players were seen getting into a police vehicle around 1 p.m. local time, according to the source.

LiAngelo Ball, two other UCLA players released on bail after shoplifting arrest in Hangzhou, China

 

LaVar Ball; his wife, Tina; and son LaMelo Ball were having breakfast with the UCLA team in Shanghai on Wednesday morning. LaVar was expected to address the media from his hotel suite Wednesday morning in Shanghai, but he said he was advised by legal counsel not to speak "due to the legal nature of the matter."

 

As he was leaving the hotel later Wednesday, LaVar said: "I'm going to wait until I get some more intel on what's going on, and then I can tell you what's up."

 

Asked if he was worried about LiAngelo, LaVar said, "He'll be fine. He'll be fine. Everybody making it a big deal. It ain't that big of a deal."

 

LaVar later released a statement about the allegations against LiAngelo: "It is a very unfortunate situation that the Ball family and UCLA has to deal with at this particular time. We will comment shortly."

I guess he can at least get a jump on that foreign pro career he was going to have.

I'm confused. The state of California has travel bans to certain states due to laws about what bathroom you can use, but apparently no issue with the way the Chineese government treats its citizens.
