sidelinedoc
So what would happen if everyone just used their non Spaulding ball of choice (Rawlings' date=' Nike, Wilsons) and showed up to the playoffs with them? The officials going to make everyone forfeit?[/quote'] Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't it say they are required for the playoffs? Couldn't you use your ball of choice until then? And yes, I know the argument of using the new one so you're comfortable with it, etc.....

The officials going to make everyone forfeit? Schools can use whatever ball they want through the regular season. The officials won't allow another ball to be used in the playoffs. Simple really. IMVHO any school that has aspirations of playing for a championship is STUPID if they don't use the Spalding ball throughout the season.

All balls game have to be checked and approved by the officials before the game starts. If you try to use a ball that hasn't been checked pregame an unsportsmanlike penalty can be assessed against the head coach and the ball replaced. If you're arrogant enough to try it a second time another unsportsmanlike penalty would be called and the head coach ejected. Before every game all head coaches attest that their team is properly equipped, that includes balls. All the Right Moves
I agree with the arguement of using the same ball thru the entire year including playoffs...but why use what many are stating is not the best?
All the Right Moves
I argee with using the same ball the entire season including playoffs but sad that a team cannot pick. This isn't basketball, soccer, etc where both teams use the same ball....unless your are turnover prone.

Doesn't matter which ball was picked, there would be detractors. And sorry about the double post earlier

Did Shively Sporting Goods have enough Spalding footballs to go around???? :-)
thehotsnakes
I actually heard that this season, Spalding or Rawlings could be used, even through the playoffs. 2016 is basically a transition year, since the Spalding decision was made pretty late. RaiderPride5
I'm assuming this came down to money, right?
maysvilleky
I'm assuming this came down to money, right? No one has said for sure, but most likely, the highest bidder on the contract. I think a lot of the businesses would do the same.
OLinePride
Just like with the R2, it takes a little getting used to. Our QB likes the ball. We practiced at 8:30 a.m. A lot in July and our QB's liked the tackiness when the ball got wet. When you first air it up you'll think it's very pointy on the ends, but throw it around (and drop it like we do too much) and it evens out. So far so good. We will see if it's as durable long term.
