I never approached my sons coaches. I always told them if they had an issue with playing time. Or the coach, they needed to address it with the coach. It wasn't my issue, it was theirs. I was not at every practice, I was not in the know of the game plan. Part of them growing up. I was willing to give them advise of how to approach the coach, but it was their issue to deal with.

Parents not willing to cut the cord are a big part of the issue.

Same here, never had to but that was Mike Flynn'a policy. If it involved PT or anything basketball related it was the player's responsibility to go see the coach. Period...if a parent wanted to talk to Flynn about anything else they were more than welcome to call him.

We are ignoring the important issue ?

I don't know if we are on the same page or not but I am thinking so too.

Everyone, do we really believe a kid did this all on his own or is it possible another adult orchestrated the recording of Coach Carr?

100% on the same page. Also the fact it was orchestrated and withheld until the end of the season.

Instead of preparing the road for your kids, prepare your kids for the road. What people don't see are the things Brad does for kids behind the scenes that are non basketball related. He's a tough coach who holds kids accountable for their actions on and off the court. Has he done or said things that he regrets? Absolutely and Brad would be the first to say so. He cares about the kids and their futures more than wins and losses. But the real issue here is the cowardly act of recording a coach in the locker room at halftime orchestrated by another coach. This all coming from a coach that has, for years, said the same things that were recorded but now it's different when it's your lil Johnny. How hypocritical of you and I hope karma comes back to bite ya.

I am neutral on the coaches cussing at kids but this is what I always go back to:

1) I've never had a boss cuss me out like I've coaches do players.

2) if it is done to draw out an emotion, will you let players say it when they get emotional?

3) be disciplined in all things. Don't have to cuss to be effective.

I'm with you on this. I don't necessarily have an issue with a coach cursing around kids - its not a deal-breaker for me personally. There are cases where I might object based upon the context, use, and intent of its use. But typically not.

However, I do think that a coach should be held to a relatively high standard. I do think that there should be "off-limits" words at the high school level. There really is just no reason to use them - they wouldn't be tolerated in the office, in the hallways, or in the classroom. Its seems they are not accepted anywhere but the court and the locker room - should they be??? Today's coach needs to be smarter and chose their words more effectively.

I have absolutely NO issue with a coach being hard on kids, or with a coach yelling and screaming. Some of the best coaches I had when I was a kid were big-time in-your-face screamers. But I don't remember any of them using any of the "7-words you cant say on TV". There were extremely effective screamers without them!! Some of the best coaches my kids had were screamers as well. And those seem to be the ones my kids love/respect the most. They were tough, but would also put an arm around them and hug them when they messed up and were down on themselves.

Same here. They will need to deal with a boss that does things they don't like or agree with some day. They need to acquire the nerve, motivation, and skills to have this conversation. It's a part of the growing up process.

Never said I had a problem with his playing time cause he played plenty. So instead of running your mouth about something you don't know about and obviously cant comprehend. Our meeting was about my son's effort on the court that I felt he was not giving his all and just standing around. So that if he was not going to giving his all that we were not going to waste our time because someone else could be playing if he did not want to play. My son is to athletic to not be playing at his full potential in any sport. People kill me hiding behind their alias on here. If you want to talk about my me Man up and we can meet and talk so that get a better understanding of how I parent my kids cause I don't need to hide behind no alias. Nailed it. THIS is why a parent should talk to a coach. The only time my father went to talk to a coach was to tell him to sit me because I was in a slump and felt I needed a wake up call.

Don't let your kids ride school busses then because kids cuss up a storm on them.

You learn a lot driving that school bus, don't you?

Yikes -- I'm not sure what's being said here, but none of the possibilities seem pleasant. Without violating any BGP rules, can anybody clarify this?

All these post here and most people have no idea what truly happened! And neither do I! But to address some of these post;

Cussing in front of students, and cussing at them are two different things.

Calling a student a derogatory name is Just plain wrong!

I'm all for hard core discipline. I do believe society has become too soft. Yelling at a person, or kid is one thing, but when you call them out in front of their teammates and call them a name that is not acceptable for anyone to say anywhere, then we have a problem. I know of a certain coach that has called players a EDITED punk." That is inexcusable...

To say: get your EDITED together and play ball! I have no problem with that.

I am not commenting on the Scott/Coach Carr issue with the following. It's just a generality.

A coaching calling a kid a punk is MUCH worse than a derogatory word that is considered to be a bad word.

Much worse.

Again, not commenting in regards to this as I have no idea what was said by anyone.

Would you agree that Officially Coach Carr resigned but had he not resigned it was highly likely he would have been fired?

No, I would not. I have no idea if he would have been fired, none of us do.

I think you took TAC's post out of context man, relax. I think your post about his role on the team may have given him the idea that you were questioning playing time possibly. I dont know but no need to get defensive, I do applaud your getting involved and looking out for the best interest of your son. All kids need pushed and many times they need to hear it from someone other than their parents. TAC is a good dude who would never create issues on here. Best of luck to your son!
