This is exactly my problem with schools in ky, namely my local one.

 

I'm still amazed at how secretive ours acts. When the taxpayers vote 6 to 1 for a coaching hire they , desolve the hiring committee, rid themselves of the public eye then try to make a hire based on friendships and buddies. They want zero accountability from the taxpayers, its mind blowing.

 

I have heard similar stories at many schools over the years.

Do you think Brad Carr yells at his kids the same way he yells at his players? NO. So why does it make it okay for him to say those terms to kids that aren't even his? Let me restate from previous posts: I am ok with cussing and yelling. Not personal attacks on teenagers.

I've been known to let out some nastiness at my own garage. I'm confused how you can say cuss words and thats ok, but something else is not ok.

 

I can cover the cuss alphabet in about 7 to 10 seconds. Im must be missing some words.

There is a difference between cussing and cussing at someone/name calling which is what Carr was doing. Schools even have different punishments for kids if they just cuss, and cuss directly at someone in a threatening way.

 

Do I think Brad Carr should have got fired? No. But the school should have suspended him for a game or two and said you need to not do that kind of stuff or leave.

 

I'm not saying change his coaching style, I am saying change some of the words he chooses to call kids.

Yes, very. If someone called your kids a bunch of mother liking cats which is crossing the line IMO. Cussing, yelling, screaming, chewing out I do not care at all. If the Kenton County School District does not punish him it makes them look like they condone this type of behavior from a coach who is supposed to be a role model.

 

This is why kids are soft today. I see no reason for punishment for that. Kids don't like it , don't play. You will hear worse from your peers and in everyday life.

You can guarantee that there isn't a kid on that team that's not called one of his teammates the same thing you're implying. Quit being a wuss pull your big boy shorts up and stop crying to mommy a d daddy. Let's play ball !!!

Nobody said he got fired...it is certainly possible that he decided that because of the way this situation was handled, that he wanted no part of a system that would handle a situation this way and just left it all. Can't blame him for that....

 

We don't really know what went on behind the closed doors, but I'm pretty sure Brad Carr did not get "fired"....I'm also fairly sure he chose a path of his own volition....while he may have been wrong in what he did, he may have been more principled in his decision than the system was in theirs...little food for thought.

Thank you! I come from a generation and a city that have had their share of rough times, but I've never understood the notion that rejecting abusive language somehow equals emotional weakness. I guess nothing says "tough" like a bunch of us taking online jabs at one another while using pseudonyms.

Don't let your kids ride school busses then because kids cuss up a storm on them.

It is possible that the word usage isnt the issue here but maybe the inflection of his voice when using the derogatory words.

 

We can all speculate but if you played athletics in HS you were probably yelled at or encouraged to do better by the use of derogatory language. I turned out okay but I would never do it myself when coaching.

I don't have a dog in this fight, and I clearly don't know what did or did not happen or what was or wasn't said. In addition, I am older than most on here, I believe, and I am fairly old school. But I struggle with the notion that it is alright for an adult in a coaching position to engage in certain behavior because high school kids engage in the same conduct.
