Field for 6th and 7th region tournament
Smallhoops replied to LouHSJunkie's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I gave up on this issue long ago, and I will continue to go to Valley for the 6th and 7th regional tournaments. However, I don't think it is too much to ask that the 7th Region tournament be played within the 7th Region. If JCPS is not willing to spend money to provide an adequate facility at a JCPS school, I think a return of the 7th Region tournament to Freedom Hall would be awesome. But I am not holding my breath. -
Ballard 83 Christian Academy 81 (OT)
Smallhoops replied to LouHSJunkie's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I was only here for the second half but thought Ballard played smarter and harder than CAL. Bruins deserved the win. -
Been a tough year for the Bruins. Other than a very nice win over Male, what is their best win? Beth Haven, maybe? I know the old adage is that it is tough to beat a team three times in a season. But I actually think is pretty easy to beat a team three times in a season, particularly when you are the better team and have the best player who will be playing in the game, which CAL has in Jackson Washington. I think CAL gets it done tonight. We'll see.

In a game that won't mean much to many, the Wyverns of Francis Parker (formerly St. Francis) take down the Kentucky Country Day Bearcats 56-53 for the first time since the 2009-2010 season. The Wyverns improve to 6-12 while KCD, which recently played in the All A state tournament, falls to 12-8. A big win for Francis Parker.

This could be interesting. Evangel Christian and Portland Christian have both moved, and Highlands Latin has been added since 2007 along with DuBois and Grace James. Another interesting twist is presented by Francis Parker (formerly St. Francis), which is still located in downtown Louisville but plays its home games at its lower school/middle school campus in Oldham County (although its long range plan is to build a new gym downtown). Hope they will use some common sense in coming up with a new alignment.

I voted for Trinity, although I think there are a few teams that are pretty much at the same level. I think this will be a great opportunity for St. X to show they are for real. And I love the Fairdale pick - I saw them play in the King of the Bluegrass. Really happy to see them playing so well again.

WEB Du Bois 81 Central 32

Those of us of a certain age remember Central as a real power, winning state championships (I was in Freedom Hall when Central won in 1974, my senior year in high school). Its been a while since they were at that level, although they did make it to the championship game in 2009. I agree with @LouHSJunkie. A couple things have affected Central, the primary one being the ease with which students can switch schools in Jefferson County. Players who would have been at Central in years past are now at other schools. Coach Bibby did a good job getting the most out of the players he had, but basketball life is tough in the 7th region. And this being the first year post-Coach Bibby has not helped. So I worry about Central a little bit in the next few years. Dubois is another matter. Dubois is in the process of adding grades to become a full four-year high school but at this point all of their significant contributors are freshmen and sophomores. I saw them play recently and like their coach. I am looking forward to seeing how they develop over the next few years. I know they have a couple home games listed but I am not sure where those games will be played because it is my understanding they don't have an adequate gym in their current location (although I may be wrong about that). I know they will be moving to a new facility in the next couple of years that should address that situation. -
Beth Haven 59 Warren Central 47

I get it about the injuries, but this is a very nice win for Beth Haven, which is one of the smallest schools playing KHSAA basketball. Its total high school enrollment is around 50. Coach Stinnett does a really good job there. -

Always a well-run, great event. See you out there. -
I recently saw that Crittenden County and Caldwell County are playing a scrimmage in the old Fredonia gym in mid-November. I think that is awesome. Are there other similar games being scheduled this season? I would like to know of any that might be in the works.

Kentucky All Stars 94 Indiana All Stars 90
Smallhoops replied to PurplePride92's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
While they could not get another win in Indianapolis on Saturday, this team and its coaches deserve much, much credit. The win Friday night was against a team with players committed to Purdue, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Vanderbilt. A substantial accomplishment. Congratulations to all involved. -
Kentucky's juniors turned in an impressive and successful performance this afternoon at Jeffersonville High School, beating Indiana's juniors 106-92. After trailing 57-48 at halftime, Kentucky outscored Indiana 58-35 in the second half. Travis Perry led the way with 24 points, with Elizabethtown's Ayden Evans adding 23 points, Derrell Bateman of Christian County contrbuting 15 points and 18 rebounds, and Warren Central's Kade Unseld scoring 15. Indiana was playing without a couple of their better players, but I was impressed with this group playing for Kentucky.

Best Basketball Classes in State History?
Smallhoops replied to Adrian Woj Burner's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I think some of the older classes are being underappreciated here. Consider 1974, my senior year in high school: Jack Givens - UK, NBA Kenny Higgs - LSU, NBA Rick Wilson - Louisville, NBA Robert Miller - Cincinnati, NBA (very briefly in the NBA) James Lee - UK Danny Hall - UK, Marshall Bob Lindsay - Florida, George Washington Dickie Keffer - Vanderbilt I think there are some similar classes from around then but I don't have the stuff where I can look with me right now
