Dixie Heights 2016/2017
wheelhouse replied to PurplePride92's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Last season three different Dixie players shared virtually equal time at the point. One has graduated, one has moved, and Meyer remains. -

Unfortunately, "everyone" isn't really everyone. A lot of the evaluators at these events already know who their picks are and -- here's the real shocker -- may even have had a hand in enrolling those players in the event. -

This is the fourth NKY kid I know of who will be playing basketball in the Ohio Athletic Conference -- but I only know about 2015 and 2016 grads, so I'm betting there are more. -

I'm having trouble locating information on NE Mississippi. Is it a four-year school? -
Pig Williams to Conrad Basketball Academy

My son's entire 17U AAU team just received emails from Conrad Basketball Academy, asking that they consider a fifth year there and offering some form of scholarship. -

Someone in this kid's inner circle needs to sound the Twitter Alarm. I've seen more judicious approaches to life's second chances. -
Stop the madness i.e. Transferring
wheelhouse replied to Big East Zebra's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
This may hold true in theory and even in the majority of applied decisions, but there's been more than one BGP thread indicating that it is not always the case. It certainly wasn't the case with our kid. -

I'm glad someone is willing to bring this up. Though I typically don't comment a lot on transfer threads (unless they involve Wiggins), our family has been through the process and we've learned three things: 1) unsurprisingly, certain folks from a kid's former school can make things pretty easy or they can make things pretty rough; 2) regardless of the reason a player may change programs, it certainly seems that the burden of proof rests on the kid and her/his family; 3) the current system -- at least in Kentucky -- makes it difficult for a family to explain how complicated the relationship between "academic reasons" and "athletic reasons" can be. -
Okay, I already understood the basics about the existence and submission of an audio recording. My question was about I4C's earlier mention of "another coach" somehow being involved with the recording. Is that a reference to another coach in the region? Another Kenton County coach? Another [gulp] Scott coach?

Yikes -- I'm not sure what's being said here, but none of the possibilities seem pleasant. Without violating any BGP rules, can anybody clarify this?

And this unfortunate comment highlights the bigger problem some of us have with the word(s) that were allegedly used: it's disrespectful to women on several levels, something I'd rather not teach young men on or off the court.

Thank you! I come from a generation and a city that have had their share of rough times, but I've never understood the notion that rejecting abusive language somehow equals emotional weakness. I guess nothing says "tough" like a bunch of us taking online jabs at one another while using pseudonyms.

Isn't Jason Booher the current Pikeville AD? Not that that necessarily makes it a lock but that's a long-standing, and I assume positive, connection.

Not sure which school he'll be representing but I've got to go with Wiggins.

Actually, only Cumberland played on the same OBC team as Jones; Kennard, Harris, and Fowler were all King James players, though on that circuit you never knew when guys would show up "on loan" now and then. That being said, your point is 100% correct -- those of us who have seen Carlik play on a regular basis have always viewed him as a D1 kid. -
You've got a point here, but these issues are complicated. I'm assuming you attended the game and I was there as well; there were stretches when the guards didn't look to Reed often enough or early enough, but there were also times when he did not position himself well to receive or score, particularly in transition. Remember, DHHS finished this season with one senior on the squad -- these guys are young and still learning, the big upside being that virtually all of them are returning next year. Reed's a strong athlete and a smart kid who had a good junior season and will likely have a fantastic senior season.

I heard they've actually managed to secure Wiggins a game jersey with no number on it. Can anybody confirm? -

Dude! Given the tone of some other current threads, I'm really glad you included the "LOL" and the emoji with this comment. -

I'm confused. Did the most recent 24 hours' worth of material from this thread disappear at some point today?
