Mr. Basketball 2017

Featured Replies

After watching him lead his team to a state championship, I have to think that Sweet 16 MVP Taveion Hollingsworth is the front runner for the award. Some other names that immediately come to mind are David Sloan (Taylor County), Cole VonHandorf (Covington Catholic) and Tray Hollowell (University Heights). Anyone else that you think is a front runner for Mr. Basketball next season?

If Sean McNeil (Cooper) stays healthy the entire season he will be one of the top candidates IMO especially with what the Jaguars have coming back off of a 23-5 season that was cut short by key injuries to their top 3 players.

Taveion Hollingsworth, David Sloan, and Cole Von Handorff will be the 3 most mentioned.

Austin Crawford COULD be a dark horse if he wins 10th Region POY...should be him or Jake Ohmer.

Chris Vogt and jaylen sebree are dark horses as well.

Jake Ohmer will certainly be considered - could be a situation where he averages 40ppg and gaudy scoring numbers put him in the middle of the conversation.

I'd add Terry Taylor (BG) to the early list of candidates.

I can see Co-POY in the 10th with him and Crawford.

Define your criteria for the award.

Ultimately, it's a popularity contest. Hollingsworth has the early advantage based on all the coaches aka voters having seen him play well at Rupp this week.

David Sloan has the disadvantage of playing at Taylor County, where everyone hates the coach and program and refuse to vote for kids there.

No one sees Lovan. And he's unlikely to get to Rupp next year with BG in the way again.

CVH and McNeil could cancel each other out if votes are split from NKY voters.

Just my thoughts.

Not sure which school he'll be representing but I've got to go with Wiggins.

I would think Hollingsworth has given himself a leg up after his Sweet 16 performance.

Next years Forcht Bank King of the Bluegrass will feature:

Hollingsworth

Von Handorff

Sloan

Lovan

Taylor

Sebree

and many others

Tony Jackson from North Hardin should put up big numbers this year.

The Richard Gatewood kool aid must taste awesome.
