I think David Sloan will be one of the top 3 choices for Mr. Basketball next season. I think it is Taveion Hollingsworth's to lose. A year ago I thought it was Quentin Goodin's to lose.

I agree Sloan will be in the conversation as he's probably the highest ranked player in his class. I just don't think Sloan could do more than Goodin did this season. Yes its a long time and anything could happen. Nobody likes Gatewood and they proved that by not voting for Goodin. If Goodin couldn't win as front runner I think it will be near impossible for Sloan to win being the 2nd or 3rd choice.

 

Honestly, I wouldn't be to shocked if Sloan and Gatewood aren't at TC next year.

TC has some really good young talent. They might not be at the level of this year but they are far from done making appearances at Rupp over the next 4 years...

 

They have some good young talent, Irvin will be a VERY good player. The Smith kid will be a good player too. Even with Goodin and Sloan if not for Gaines they dont go back to Rupp IMO.

I would call it fact that Gatewood isn't liked, was that the sole reason Goodin didn't win? I doubt it,BUT I'm pretty sure it had something to do with it.

Not as much as Gatewood likes to make it out to be. It's easier for him to say Q didn't get votes because people don't like him than it is to say that they underachieved from November to January. Once Owen County beat Taylor County and then CCH demolished Taylor County the tide shifted from Q to Carson big time.

Taylor wasn't a very good team until they got Gaines playing IMO. Yes Taylor struggled and I always thought #1 was to high, but when you got 2 top 150 players on the same team in KY hard to not rank them #1. Owen County also lost lost in the first round of the region. So one team underachieved to start and the other did at the finish.

I would say that Mason Faulkner also being on the ballot hurt Quentin Goodin more than Coach Gatewood's popularity did. I'm sure there are plenty of coaches in that area of the state that think Faulkner is better. They indicated so by the region POY being split.

Bring back voting after the Sweet 16! I don't think it changes anything this year but I liked it better the old way. Anthony Hickey doesn't win the award without his performance at the state tournament. And just think if Hollingsworth and Sloan were seniors this year. Voting before the tournament would have favored Sloan while I would be willing to bet voting after the tournament would seal the deal for Hollingsworth. Voting before says the Sweet 16 has no significance!
