For the record, Bellarmine and NKU have not played since the 2011-12 season. Bellarmine beat NKU 8 of the last 9 times they played and has gone 211-46 since that season.

 

Davenport has a great relationship with Pitino and Cronin, but they don't play pity games. Bellarmine annually provides them highly competitive games that are productive for both programs. Weyer is going to love being a Knight, and he is a superior shooter in the paint, on the line and from long range to every other Mr. Basketball candidate mentioned in this thread. Not an opinion, statewide stats speak for themselves.

 

However, being mentioned competitively with Williams, Goodin and Faulkner is pretty exceptional territory. No NKy media and no AP vote from the area limits NKy athletes to statewide coaches exposure.

I thought this thread was about who's MrBasketball for this year? It has gone into who is better d1 prospect. Where they go to school should not be a point of consideration. I've watched all the players mentioned here and are all excellent and would be a fine choice. I have to admit that having a son play in region 8 I've watched Carson Williams play many more games so i may have a slight bias, but I think he is the Mr Basketball for KY this year. What he does and has done for his team is impressive. Other than parents and coaches, none of us know a kids work effort. All i know is they all have had to work hard to achieve the success they have had. In the end it won't make a difference to any of them as they all have their college plans on place. Best of luck to them all.

Outside of Larkai I couldn't find much, and if you want to steamroll Davenport over the incident Larkai was involved with, then you better start steamrolling a huge percentage of other coaches as well.

Agree. I have seen one of the other young men being mentioned here as not just a possible winner, but in somes opinion the front runner and I have to say that player just does not stack up to Williams in my book.

I have no interest in starting a thread about such individuals or Davenport. I have been around the business long enough to realize he will never be a Division I head coach. All a Division I president/chancellor has to do is call up the three individuals names mentioned and that will be all they need to eliminate him from their search. I can assure you most coaches would have NEVER allowed two of these players in their programs as transfers. But that is for a college thread. This is a high school thread about Mr. Basketball. If you want to discuss it, start a thread and I will gather more information from my friends up north who have a great deal of Davenport background.

Then who leaked word of the "offer" to this forum and the press up there in N.Ky.? Was it the player, his family or the former coaches?

 

Not sure who "leaked" the offer but I can tell you Coach Bezold came up to Ben and his parents and said he'd been watching Ben and liked what he saw. He thought Ben would help his team and that he'd like to extend an offer for Ben play for him. He also said he was going to offer Ben at the Trinity game but it was cancelled bc of snow. That is why we considered it an OFFER. Ben never accepted the offer nor did he decline it ...Coach Bezold left and we assumed the offer left with him. There is a difference between a receiving an offer and accepting said offer.

 

Back to what this thread is about - Ben played with Carson this past summer in the Nike EYBL League and agree that Carson is a great player and kid! Ben is just honored to be nominated for this award. Good luck to all the boys who's hard work has been noticed and that are also up for the award of Mr Kentucky.

Scotty Hopson didn't win because back then the winner was picked after the sweet 16. Darius Miller won mr. Basketball that year for the same reason Anthont Hickey JR won in 2011. I don't think they are voting that way this year as they didn't last year. That hurts Tyrik Edwards chance of winning this year.

He plays on a team that has 4 players averaging double digits. They were Class-A runners up in the state tournament and are headed to Rupp. Seen him play several times now and can tell you he might have as good a college career as any of these guys. Headed to Samford and will be a good one. His team beat both Carson Williams team and Quentin Goodin's team this season. Kid is a winner. Coach told me they set the all time record for wins at Murray High. There are not 5 players in this state better than Boone.

College potential he may have a high ceiling but as far as Mr. Basketball it is not even close for Boone to win. I love Boone's game and if he was on a different team he would easily average over 20.

I am not saying he should win it by any means. Just saying the kids a winner. More college ready than anyone except the top 3....Williams, Goodin, Faulkner. And winning is important. That is why Carson should win it. He carried his team and made those around him better. Goodin's team lost to too many average teams. Both are great players though.

Goodin's team is the only team still playing of the three. If winning is so important....IJS
