Taylor County - HUGE transfer?
C'mon.....Shelby. Quit making everything TC out to be worse than it is. You have no inside info. I've looked over Twitter and see nothing unless one of the Cville Coaches are giving you false info and you're relaying it for them which seems to be your pattern. You're an AD act like it.

Mr. Basketball... Who you got?
So the key to winning it is perception. Schedule weak win games and let the ignorance think you are beating quality opponents. That was my point. The state is so backwards.

Mr. Basketball... Who you got?
So Carson Williams never getting his team out of region is the reason he won it? Makes no sense. People voted the way they voted for numerous reasons. Q will go to Xavier and Carson to NKU. We will see Q on TV and read about Carson in the paper. Hugh difference in the way they are thought of nationally but our states backwards vindictive way of thinking caused what it caused so don't be mad when someone says or comments the way the feel.

Updated Maher Rankings 2/28
How can Taylor County be ranked 30 and have a a strength of schedule of 32. They are 5-3 against your top 25. I guess playing the likes of Caverna and Campbellsville pulls you down doesn't it Shelby?

Mr. Basketball... Who you got?
Do you guys understand what offers really are? Offers are sometimes legit, sometimes they are favors to AAU programs or scouts, and sometimes they are completely made up by players. I am not saying the Ben made anything up I am just saying what they are. No college coach or program is going to come out a publicly and say that an offer is not valid. Also an offer does not mean the school will take a commitment. There is a lot to this game that is played. Also with a new coach he does not have to hold an offer but most will not pull offers they will meet with the player and his family and let him know why the school no longer is a good choice. The game of recruiting is all PR.

Mr. Basketball... Who you got?
I assume the McDonald All-American game nominees are selected by a national panel. The list came out several weeks ago. Goodin was the only one nominated from KY. He was not selected for the game. He is ranked in the Top 100 in the country in all publicated list. This is done by ESPN, rivals, etc scouting the players throughout their AAU and high school careers.

Mr. Basketball... Who you got?
The only player who got a nomination for McDonalds All-American in KY was Quentin Goodin. The team was selected several weeks ago and he was not chosen. So we know for sure Mr Goodin has the only connection and won't be serving fries.

Mr. Basketball... Who you got?
"Staman2; Williams is by far the best player in the state. What he does for his team day in & day out. Goodin is good but slacks off too much not really a team player ethier.. Mason is really good if his team had other people then they would be really good! C'mon man. Not sure how many times you have seen Goodin play but to make a broad statement about him not being a team player is absurd. Kid has scored nearly 2900 points and has 670+ career assist. That also ranks 9th in KY State History. I really doubt any of the others mentioned has that many assist.

Mr. Basketball... Who you got?
I have looked through all the stats and not sure where issue might be. Dunbar game was closest I saw. Team made 18 baskets. Goodin made 4. So there was opportunities to get assist. Stats are so subjective though. I'm sure each statman can see things a little different.

What makes a great player?
Let's have a serious conversation about what makes a great player. I am not looking to insert any current players names. Just looking for insight on what people think. What makes a player great? 1. He scored a lot of points in his career (2000-3000+) but his team is around or below .500 during his career. 2. He has scored a lot of points in his career (2000-3000+) but his team had one good season. 3. He scored a lot of points in his career (2000-3000+) but his team has always been a winner against good competition. 4. He doesn't score a lot (1000-1500) but he contributes to a winning team that has made multiple trips to sweet 16. He has a winner's attitude. Wins over stats type guy. My main thoughts is that making people around you better may make you a great player. You may not be able to judge a player on stats alone. Let me know your thoughts. (Again no names just conversation)

Who is winning Mr. Basketball
Owen County beat SLaurel 76-74 Taylor County beat SLaurel 65-58 Does that count for anything? C'mon man. Grasping at straws. By this logic you should rank LCA #1 in the state. They beat Lafayette by 29 who beat Mercer by 18. So LCA got to be better?

Who is winning Mr. Basketball
The real question is what is the the true criteria for Mr. Basketball? Is it one or two games, one season, or a collective career? My opinion is that it would be which player has represented the "state of Kentucky" best as a whole and not just one season. 4 years of Team success, strength of schedule, other teammates success, and lastly individual success. Team Success: Taylor County 2012-2013 16-15 District Champs 2013-2014 26-7 District Champs / Region SF 2014-2015 28-5 District Champs / Region Champs Owen County 2012-2013 20-10 District Champs 2013-2014 18-10 District Champs 2014-2015 26-6 District Champs / Region SF Strength of Schedule (2015-2016) Taylor County Record of Opponents Wins 141-93 Losses 120-33 Total 261-125 (63%) Owen County Record of Opponents Wins 196-202 Losses 52-19 Totals 248-221 (53%) I will not post the team schedules because you can look for yourself on KHSAA, but their is very little comparison to the strength of the schedule this season. Plus Taylor still has Murray, Dunbar, and Hoptown left on their schedule. It matters a lot on whom you are putting the numbers up against. Other players success. I am not sure who Carson has played with over his career, but Goodin has played with Caleb Wiggington (2002 point career), Brandon Berry (1000 point scorer), Cameron Morgeson (1000 point scorer), David Sloan (Surpassed 1000 points a few weeks ago), and Ezra Oliver (on pace to score 1000 points). Seems Goodin would have to pass the ball and share a lot of scoring for these players to achieve this success. Also would like to mention that Goodin led his team to Rupp Arena and the Sweet 16 last season while being the only Junior on the 1st team All State. Owen County vs. Taylor County Head to Head (Owen won by 12) Goodin 30p 6r Williams 28p 11r Anyone that saw that game knows Williams wasn't the reason they won that game and Goodin wasn't the reason they lost. McDonald going 5-5 on 3s in the first half was the difference. You be the judge on who fits the criteria of Kentucky's MR. Basketball.

Six Degrees of Basketball Separation
Goodin (1) played for St Louis Eagles (2) where Tyler Hansbrough (3) played. Tyler played at UNC (4) where Dean Smith coached (5) who also coached Micheal Jordan. Not sure that is how you play but a guess at it. Goodin(1) played for Indiana Elite (2) where Cody Zeller (3) played who now plays for Charlottle Bobcats (4) owned by Micheal Jordan (5).

Boys Stats leaders through 1-21-16
These stats are subject to those putting it in. Can't put a whole lot into them. Great example: Green County. Their player Compton has shot 100+ free throws but the team has shot less than 50. That can't be right somewhere.
-
Doss 67 Taylor County 55
Would they play the same schedule without Goodin and Sloan? They haven't played too many if any weak teams.

Transfers (Pot calling kettle Black)
Part of the purpose of this thread was to let some people try to explain how a transfer is not a transfer. And several of you proved me right that you are the pot calling the kettle black. My dictionary says a transfer is defined as: To move to a different place, region, or situation; especially: to withdraw from one educational institution to enroll at another So again let me clarify that many schools in the state of Kentucky have transfers in basketball. Many people think they know reasons for a transfer but they do not. Also several if not all of the top basketball schools have transfers. If you can name one that doesn't please do. Lastly, don't comment on kids if you don't know their situation personally because rumors don't make it true. Haters don't make it true. And the chatter from within and outside your school don't make it true.

Transfers (Pot calling kettle Black)
There is a lot of talk on here about transfers. Who has them whose getting them and so forth. So let's talk about it and put the teams out there that has them. Let's use the basis of not going to the feeder school. Als let's not use any excuses for why they showed up. I'm a central KY guy so let's talk about some that I know of. There could be more on these teams that I can think of. Taylor - Sloan and eventually possibly Gaines North Hardin - Jackson Campbellsville - Taylor (twice) and Epps Adair - Freshman from Indy Russell - Stotts Casey - White and Russell County kid Nelson County - Ryan Bowling Green - Booker, Jones Brothers Mercer - Dow and James Christian County - Sebree Hoptown - I know they have some from UHA or Christian Perry County - Tobler Owen County - Dunnaway This is just some that I can think of off the top of my head. There are several top teams n the state on here. Christian county Hoptown Taylor north Hardin mercer Owen county. The name calling gets old about certain teams on here. Let's be honest that most if not all the top teams in the state have transfers. The reasons for transferring vary but an addition is an addition. Don't throw rocks while living in a glass house.

Central 90 Taylor County 81
Is 81 points not enough to win. What would another scorer do? Sounds like a defense problem.

Taylor County 98 Caverna 77
Please when the film goes up on kysports watch it and chart it yourself. I think you will see that those that enter stats aren't always accurate. You watch and let us know.

Taylor County 98 Caverna 77
Here is my thoughts on shots to score in relation to this game. I am not sure what it matters how many he shot. 30-40-50 is still a bunch of shots. I was told he hit 20+ free throws as well. So if he score 20 on free throws that leaves about 30 points left to score. Efficiency is what you are talking about now. So how many shots should a good player shoot to score 30 points not counting free throws. Also you must take into account that they aren't just playing an average team. that will also cause his shot attempts to be greater. Lastly, someone help me understand something about this game. With about 5 minutes to go in the game Taylor was leading by 20 plus. The coach from Caverna then began to foul Taylor on every inbound to put them on the line. Taylor continued to hit free throws. The fourth quarter ended with a 39-37 score for that quarter. What was his purpose? Give Faulkner more points? Faulkner played to the very last second scoring 7-9 against the JV. Someone please explain.

Courier-Journal's list of top 25 players in state
Coaches vote on these rankings. There are only a few ways that players can be seen to get the votes. 1. Play in the Sweet 16. 2. Play for a team that the coach is willing to play for exposure not always wins. 3. Play AAU on a team that is seen throughout the state or in state AAU. 4. I guess you could also get some steam from social media even though a lot of this is not true.
