I wouldn't put this game on him his teammates just did not show up. And they let him down big time. He had 26points 6steals 5rebounds and 2assists and yes this was my guy for Mr basketball he's a gamer. And no one can guard him he proved that today. Again his teammates simply couldn't make shots

A pretty good player, but not even in the same ballpark as Williams, Goodin or Faulkner. Edwards a D-2 player possibly, but at 5-7 or 5-8 he is way too small to guard anybody. I stood next to him before the game and he seems closer to 5-6 than 5-8. I am about 5-9 and had 2-3 inches on him. He's is quick, but his team is too concerned about who is going to score instead of passing the ball to open teammates. That's why they are going home early.

After reading Goodin's comments after the Mason County game saying that he should have won Mr. Basketball and then reading his coach's comments saying that Goodin didn't win because other coaches didn't like him says a lot about that program's character (or lack thereof).

Apparently "most" of the people who voted don't agree because if "most" people did agree then he would've gotten "most" of the votes.

 

There's nothing wrong with thinking you should've won but to tell the media that you should've won comes off as a sore loser. Then for the coach to tell everyone that the reason your player lost is because other coaches don't like you is not a whole lot better.

 

I guess it's a situation where attitude reflects leadership.

I would say the attitude displayed by Taylor County the last 2 years cost Goodin his chance at Mr Basketball. The whole program was a traveling freak show, ask anyone in the 5th.

Taylor County started the season ranked no worse than #2 in every poll throughout the state. At one point this season they were 7-8 and had lost to Carson Williams' Owen County team.

 

That's why he lost Mr. Basketball.

Interesting that these comments came after the Taylor County TEAM won a state tournament game, and after the Taylor County TEAM ended their season tonight. Seems like the focus should have been on the TEAM.

If voting was done the way it was when Anthony Hickey won Mr. Basketball(after the Sweet 16) and if NCC wins tomorrow then Taylor County folks would be complaining about Ben Weyer winning Mr. Basketball and not Carson Williams.

 

Look, Quentin Goodin is the most athletically talented player in the state and he has the highest upside of all the seniors in the 2016 class. We very well may be watching him doing HUGE things on the court for Xavier the next four years in March in the NCAA Tournament. That being said he had Mr. Basketball locked up until Taylor County started losing games and then the culmination was losing by 40 to Covington Catholic. People in Ky want to see Mr. Basketball lead his team to victories and if you are going to be Mr. Basketball on a preseason top 2 team then you better win 95% of your games or folks are going to want to know what the deal is and if that team ends up 7-8 at any point in the season then you're going to lose 20-30% of your voters. In a race for Mr. Basketball that is too high of a percentage to lose and expect to still win the award.

 

Hell, if Caverna had gone 22-5 and beaten Taylor County then Mason Faulkner wins it.

So the key to winning it is perception. Schedule weak win games and let the ignorance think you are beating quality opponents.

I wouldn't say Owen scheduled weak to win games. They beat TAYLOR CO., South Laurel, Henry Clay, North Laurel, South Oldham. And then played Trinity, Ballard, Murray. I would consider all of those quality opponents. All games in which Williams dominated.
