Tyriq Edwards I seen the kid play nobody in the whole western Kentucky area can guard this kid he's garunteed 20 every game. He's very crafty. Great playmaker. And is unstoppable. I believe no one in the state can guard him. And he'll put on a show during the tournament

 

Well I wouldn't say his weakness is his jump shot . Last few weeks teams been backing off of him daring him to shoot thinking he'll miss but he's been knocking them down consistently even the 3 ball. Which to me is the reason they became unstoppable during the region tournament. He will knock those down if you sag of or he'll beat you off the dribble and pull up. Though I'll admit that has been his weakness the first three years and beginning of the season due to his old coach telling him to take to the basket every chance he gets which I can see why because no one can guard him. But Frankie took his game to another level helping him with his jump shot to the point he feels comfortable taking the shot and knocking it down. He has a nice form and elevations on his shot. So my advice will be if you dare him to shoot your in for a rude of awakening and a long night

 

I wish Tyrik, and Christian Co., well at Rupp this week... most think they could make a deep run. As for him individually, I hope he does put on a show, although he appears to be a nice player I am not seeing him being the sort of player you are describing.

 

On the year he is averaging just over 16 per game, you are saying he is good for 20 each contest. Is there something that is pulling his per game average down?

 

You are also saying that he has been knocking down the 3 with some consistency. I only see him making 6 the entire season, 1 of which has come in the post season which is a total 5 games.

 

Looking at his stats, he looks more like a player that tries to get in the lane, maybe even to the rim. He has a nice FG% and seems to shoot his fair share of FT's.

As I've said he's starting to have confidence in his shot and he can hit twenty any game but that's where the playmaking comes into play with guy like torrion ware and sebree to take some of the load he doesn't have to every night can when they need it like for instance the region championship hoptown was making a huge comeback and he exploded for 27 points he becomes a scorer when they need it... And that's in big games mainly he's playmaking for someone else like TORRION WARE and sebree... The 3 is still a work in progress but inside that arc no one can hold him he's stronger than most guards. Faster than most guards. And more athletic. Don't be surprises when he pulls a anthony hickey and average 20+ during state... Cause remember hickey was averaging the same thing going into the tournament before he put on a show. And everyone seems to compare him to HICKEY

Goodin may very well be as deserving as anyone else on the list. And full disclosure here, I have not seen Goodin play, at least not yet anyway. With that said, I have seen several others mentioned along with Williams as Mr. basketball candidates, and Williams is at the top of that mountain in my (and many others) eyes. If Goodin is actually the best, and as you say "it's not even close" then I have really missed the boat on not watching him play. However, I will believe, unless I am proved otherwise that it's actually closer than you think.

However, the numbers he puts up is definitely based upon him playing against way smaller defenders with the small school schedule they play each year. Although they did strengthen it to some degree this season, I would still argue that he didn't play the competition that Taylor County did throughout the season.

 

In regards to overall talent, yes Goodin is that much better and it isn't even close. Look at recruiting rankings, overall evaluations, and upside. Goodin has to go against players who are his equal in size and dominates them. There aren't many in the state of Kentucky who can match Williams size, especially in the weak NCKC, and that inflates his numbers.

As to the bolded...all of that is fine and good for the player who can garner high rankings and the such. Great for them as they go on to the next level. With that said though, it means nothing insofar as what a young man has accomplished as a high school player and has no (or shouldn't have) bearing when it comes to voting for Mr. Basketball. If it was all predicated on who has the higher celeing as they move from high school to college then they should rename the award to reflect that. There have been many Mr. KY basketball that may not have had a higher potential than others in their class, but as far as high school accomplishments, they reached a higher level or at least as high while maybe having more team success as well in comparison.

 

As far as comparing schedules...that's debatable. Owen has never scheduled a "murders row" for sure, but they had a pretty decent schedule this year. Sure they had some 8th region doormats they played, just as Taylor Co. had their 12th region weaklings. As for defenders, I have seen Carson double and triple teamed by some pretty decent players/teams, and not even slow him down. And it's not like Carson is 6'10...he's about 6'5 1/2 (according to my graduated eye) so he's not doing his damage because he's head and shoulders towering above everyone.

 

Again, it's hard for me to debate Williams vs Goodin since I have not seen Goodin play. But I just have to harken back to my original post in that it's hard for me to believe that Goodin has had a better "not even close" year than Williams has. If someone has had a better year than Carson, then it would be a season for the books that's for sure.

After watching him against CovCath earlier in the year I was really disappointed with Goodin I'm not a fan quit on his team that game. Give me Ben Weyer most complete player in ky. Shoots 3's posted up blocks shots gets ball to open man and never gives up on his team totally dominated in the game against CovCath and won Taylor County got beat by 50 by Covcath. Mr. WEYER FOR Mr. BASKETBALL

Trying to remember stats and games and opponents is a lot for my small brain, so I went to the KHSAA website because from what I rememberCarson had his best games and scored the most points vs the "big" boys. Someone on here mentioned his stats were inflated because Owen's schedule was soft.

2016 Mr. Basketball - Carson Williams

Uhh...Williams dominated the game against Taylor County. His supporting cast no where near as good as Taylor County. Taylor County has the most talented team in the state. The game was not even close. Owen County won with a dominating performance by Williams. He dominates every game he plays. Could have gone to a power conference if he wished. The kid has a Kenneth Fareid motor and great skills. Goodin is the most athletic player but certainly not a better basketball player than Williams. Ask any player from a high school team that has played both teams who is the best basketball player and you might be very surprised at the answer. Nothing against Goodin. He is really good. But, so is Williams. The vote will be very, very close.
