Couldn't let this one go. I don't even know whio this other player is, but to demean the importance of a kid earning a scholarship worth $196,000 over 4 years doesn't come across too well. For perspective, an NKU scholarship is worth about $73,000. And that is relevant for the 99.9999% of the student athletes that won't play in the NBA.

WOW is right!!!! Everyone should go vote for this kid. He's the only Kentucky kid in the event, and it looks like he'll make it to the Final 4 round today. It would be pretty cool to see a KY kid on TV in a dunk contest.

If you have seen him play, you should know, Xavier did not recruit him because he can shoot ( very mediocre 45% from floor with him predominantly being a paint scorer, very weak range with 22% from 3's, and a mediocre 70% FT shooter). He is a great athlete that they hope can be taught to shoot, if not, his minutes will dwindle over time. Runner-up in my book to Carson Williams.

Carson had an offer from a Power 5 conference team, and also had serious interest from Big East schools himself. However, he did not show the return interest that would generate further development to an offer stage. My point is that just because he is going to NKU and Goodin is going to Xavier isn't a reason to suggest one has more college potential than the other. They both were recruited by higher level schools than most kids out of KY. Both would make great Mr. Basketballs and have the credentials that you could not argue against them winning.

It frosts me to hear pontifications about D1 athletes all being so much better than all D2, when most of us know that just isn't the case. Chris Lofton had no D1 offers until either May or June his senior year. He could have gone D2, but chose to holdback committing. We all know how that worked out. Weyer committed to Bellarmine early because it is a great Jesuit College with a wonderful basketball program. Recent national champs and regularly top 10 ratings and final four participants.

 

Rick Pitino, Mick Cronin, and Tom Crean respect Bellarmine so strongly that they seek them out annually as a preseason opponent. Wouldn't happen if they were at a non-competitive level. These guys wanted to be pushed to get ready, and Bellarmine provides that. Check it out and you will understand your judgement errors.

 

Bellarmine could not fill the starting spots at most top level D1 programs, but they have more than a handful of players that could fill spots of 6-13. I am not sure NKU can make that claim, in fact, I have watched Bellarmine play over 10 times this year and NKU three times. IMO Most basketball coaches that have knowlege on both would concur that Bellarmine would have a four game winning streak on NKU if they played annually 2013-2016.

Laughable. NKU while in Division II owned Bellarmine if you bother looking at the al-time series record. I posted it to you yesterday but the technical problems erased it. My buddies who talk with the NKU coaches also said Pitino and Cronin play Bellarmine in exhibitions because of their relationship with Bellarmine's coach, not because it is competitive. The Bellarmine coach used to be an assistant at U of L, but he can not get a Division I head coaching job even though he has repeatedly tried.

 

Bellarmine from what I saw has lost to the likes of Midwestern State (!?), Drury (!?), Findlay, Parkside (!?), and you are saying they are going to beat Division I schools? As a former assistant coach in Division I, it sounds to me as if you have an axe to grind with NKU. I have no dog in the fight, but there is a huge difference in Division I athletes and those who sign out of high school with D-2. As I said yesterday, NAIA rosters have more athletes than Division II rosters in may cases. Many of the players we recruited did not qualify academically for NCAA play and had to go to the NAIA, an they were much better than the kids who signed with D-2. Now a transfer from D-1 who goes to D-2, yes, they might make a difference in talent levels. But not straight from high school.

Only thing you have right about Weyer is that he did get an offer from the previous NKU staff. Nothing was ever rescinded - as the new staff came on it was assumed the offer was no longer on the table unless they re-offered.

where's this thread you speak of...only one I know of says he was offered! I will gladly tell that to any of the NKU coaches(but they already know) but most D1 current and previous coaches don't waste their time on these silly threads...except maybe you

The indisputable fact is this: He is going to play at Division II, not Division I. Congratulations. That was the point. If you have issues with what their own coaches say, including the head coach who I am told is a grad of the same high school as this player, tell them about it. I saw him play. I coached at a mid-major Division I school years ago. I said he is a fine high school player, but his skill set is not suited for success in Division I. Sorry if you can not handle an objective opinion.
