"Staman2; Williams is by far the best player in the state. What he does for his team day in & day out. Goodin is good but slacks off too much not really a team player ethier.. Mason is really good if his team had other people then they would be really good!

 

C'mon man. Not sure how many times you have seen Goodin play but to make a broad statement about him not being a team player is absurd.

 

Kid has scored nearly 2900 points and has 670+ career assist. That also ranks 9th in KY State History. I really doubt any of the others mentioned has that many assist.

Do not sleep on Tyrik Edwards... I repeat do not sleep on Tyrik Edwards. Most people know Anthony Hickey Jr., well at the sweet sixteen prepare to meet the resurrection of him, Mr. Tyrik Edwards.

That d2 school is Bellarmine. Trust me when I say this even though they are D2 they would beat Nku and a lot of D1 schools so your assessment on Weyer going to d2 may hurt him on winning Mr. Basketball is ludacris.

I can assure you there is a HUGE difference in athletes who play Division II and Division I. One of my buddies talks with NKU coaches and they decided NOT to offer Weyer even though the previous coaching staff did because he is not a Division I player. That does not mean he is not a fine player, just that he is better off with more of a chance to excel at a small program like Bellarmine. My assessment is that he is not close to Williams, Goodin or Faulkner, and the recruiting process backs that up.

I'd take NKU over Bellarmine. And the gap will widen as time goes on.

 

This is right on target. From what I understand, NKU will have a legit Division I roster next season once they add the current bunch of recruits. With Williams and Faulkner joining them, and they also have a transfer from Alabama, the gap is about to get very large.

 

I'm sure Bellarmine is a fine small-college program, so no offense to them. But they would have no shot at competing night after night with Division I programs with the type of players they must recruit. NKU I am told was a perennial 20-win team in Division II several years ago. Now they have not had a winning season since joining Division I. That is no surprise. It should be a lesson to Bellarmine fans that there is a HUGE difference in the two levels.

Bellarmine has lost to schools such as Midwestern State (!?!), Findlay, Parkside, Drury (!?). So for you to make a statement about Bellarmine beating a lot of Division I schools is less than informed, and sounds like a Bellarmine fan who wishes his/her team was in Division I. I am certain teams like NKU would have no trouble beating the aforementioned schools that Bellarmine has lost to this season. But Bellarmine does have some stirring wins like over the likes of Saint Catharine and Ohio Valley and McKendree.

Trust me Nku head coach knows he made a mistake not recruiting Weyer after watching him put up 38 pts 22 rebs 6 blocks and 5 assists in A All State against Danville. He watch Weyer play the next game against Cordia. If Weyer didn't commit to Bellarmine and sign already he would of been a Norse and that was straight out of nku head coaches mouth. No, the NKU coaches said the previous staff offered Weyer. The new hires decided Weyer was better off playing at a smaller level because of his size and limitations going up against Division I small forwards. He has neither the outside shot nor athletic ability to keep up in Division I. That is why they pulled back the offer. But looking at Bellarmine's schedule, it's a who's-who of McKendree, William Jewell, UI-Springfield, Saint Catharine, etc. I would hope they are unbeaten at home, if they are as good as you claim. Those kind of opponents do not conjure up visions of excitement in my eyes.

I'll take the guy who was recruited by a top ten program for Mr. Basketball.

For example Malone University (a DII school) beat Cleveland State (a D1 school that beat NKU at home by 5) by 16 on the road.

 

Bellarmine, KWC, Pikeville, Georgetown, etc. are all very good in-state programs that don't play division I that would play with or beat some division I schools. If you don't want to accept that that's fine.

Any team on a given night can pull off an upset (Chaminade over Ralph Sampson and No. 1 Virginia in 1982), but over the course of a season Division II and NAIA types can not maintain it. They just do not have the players. For every Malone game you point out, I can probably pull out a 125-45 blowout when D-1 school play these small-time colleges. If you can't accept that, we can disagree without becoming disagreeable.
